The first update for the year on the IAGenWeb Monroe Co. site http://iagenweb.org/monroe/ is the new Monroe County Coal Mine page. you can view the page at http://iagenweb.org/monroe/coalmines.htm . The page contains several pictures of coal mines, a tour through an Albia Coal Mine, maps to a few of the mines, the Inspector's list of coal mines in 1895, Inspector's list of coal mine accidents , some newspaper articles about mine accidents, including the disaster at lost creek mine,and info about some old coal miners, such as photos, obits, and bios. The area about old coal miners is pretty bare, so if you have ancestors who were coal miners and would like to contribute their photos, obits, or bios, please let me know. I need your help in making this a success, and maybe someone else searching the same family will see your ancestor and be able to break down a brick wall or something.
