Great gram Beebe told me that her father had a hemp rope from the stoop to the barn so he could feed and milk the cows whithot getting lost. That was Shelby County so I guess they often had whiteout blizzards making it difficult to navigate from point A to point B. They had a sleigh with two horses that pulled them to church and back.
