I have done both the Y and Mt dna testing. I even did an Mt of a female cousin to check my Paternal grandmother's Mt dna to see if she had any Native in her maternal genome. It didn't show any Native, but plenty of Western European . ? What you need to do is get what they call an ' Anthropological Test " . I got mine from dnatribes.com. In there they describe all the Total clades possible and the Native American?clades or tribes you can test for. However, if you are statistically less than about 20% Native, the test wont show anything present. ? There has been a rumor in our family for years about how in my Father's family there was Native Ancestry, namely my Grandmother. Well there is no evidence for that anymore since I had the Antro test done, which shows relationships from both your father and mother. But because my Dad didn't his pass mother's Mitchondrial DNA to me, I had to get a female cousin to check the Mt of my grandmother. ? The Anthropoligical checks 'other DNA' from both parents besides Mt for Native or whatever European, Sub Saharan, African, or Asian and other tribes you might be related to , and gives this to you in a graphic presentation. ? Also, FTDNA doesnt do Anthro" testing. Other labs do that like dnatribes.com. I like Ftdna the best and I have used them several times for the Y and mt dna tests, but they dont to the total Anthro' to check for your?total ethnic ancestry . -----Original Message----- From: kennewickman4@aol.com To: IOWA@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 29 Apr 2009 9:39 am Subject: [IOWA] Fwd: Fw: DNA testing for genealogy purposes -----Original Message----- From: KENNEWICKMAN4@aol.com To: vansantd@commspeed.net Sent: Tue, 28 Apr 2009 8:58 pm Subject: Re: [IOWA] Fw: DNA testing for genealogy purposes Kathy, ? ?
