Yes, And the ease of accessing data bases with all the indexes available now at broadband speed. Remember when census went online. You had dial-up and had to know where to look , then go to the townships and go thru each and every census page to find someone. Not even like that anymore. It used to be just easier to use a message board and post queries. Now, you can zip through a lot of information on your own. **************Big savings on Dell XPS Laptops and Desktops!(http://pr.atwola.com/promoclk/100126575x1220631276x1201390200/aol?redir=http:%2F%2Fad.double click.net%2Fclk%3B214101948%3B35952020%3Bv)
I'm as interested in Genealogy as I was 10+ years ago and plan to be for the foreseeable future . Yes, I have and still do use Rootsweb lists and find them informative and useful as always. I do notice a lack of postings and for that I am sorry as I DO use them and found good information. I also subscribe to Ancestry.com and a few other lesser subscriptions and with VERY good results. However, the world is not always perfect and neither is Ancestry. They had a change in systems (or?) which caused major problems a couple of months back which affected lots of us. I had the World membership (expensive) but their problem actually kicked me and my 3,300 names out! In trying to correct the problem they maneuvered it around and the Family Tree was back in available to everyone, but the system would not recognize me as "owner" of my Family Tree and therefore I didn't have access to my own tree! Arghhh! With much effort it was finally resolved but it made me aware that it is not good to put all my eggs in one basket so to speak, so you'll see me more in Rootsweb and my Tree will be posted on other sites too. I know Rootsweb is an excellent and informative vehicle for genealogists, but is also owned by the parent company of Ancestry - so how long will it be Free? Right now am pleased to find it still Free - which is a GREAT benefit to all new genealogists or those with limited money. Especially important in this economic time. So as long as it is available for free to all, let's be supportive of Rootsweb and all mail groups and surname lists or it will end up as "one-horse" town (aka Ancestry.com being the only game in town). One who has been there. Sandy On Apr 29, 2009, at 5:02 PM, KENNEWICKMAN4@aol.com wrote: > Yes, > > And the ease of accessing data bases with all the indexes available > now at > broadband speed.
