I agree, there could me many variations of Huffstutler - in fact, I have a cousin who's married name is Hostetler which sound pretty close to me. There is only a andful of HUFFSTUTLER's in the USA! Some concentrations in Illinois (my ranch) and some split to Alabama. In fact, I have a Huffstutler surname orum on Yahoo and it has been years since anyone has participated! On the other hand I do have some French-Canadian names that could work in he family such as Miner (Ménard) (mother's maiden name), DeNio (Denoyer) ut again not that much participation. Then there is Wolfe and Thompson - hompson being my grandmother's maiden name so not that close. Not much to work with I am afraid and doubt any pots created for these carcer surnames??? ric riginal Message: ---------------- rom: Julie juls92627@yahoo.com ate: Wed, 29 Apr 2009 11:41:00 -0700 (PDT) o: web-czar@rcn.com, IOWA@rootsweb.com ubject: DNA Tests would suggest first joining the mailing list that is associated with the NA testing you are thinking of doing. I belong to the DOUGLAS one and we ave a pot of money that people contribute to for people just like you! eople who we are interested in what their DNA will tell, who are skeptical nd might not have the money. it 's hard to find people willing. I've put n 25 or 30 - when I've got it, and so it adds up!! From what I understand, when you get your tests back they will send you the eople's contact info that are closest to you. I think it's just what they re willing to give out, so someone might only allow his email, versus nother only address. I don't know if they give your info to your close ousins. maybe someone else can share that info. e just had a cool thing happen. A man who is 83 years old, did a DNA test or another surname came up with almost an exact match with one of the ouglas participants. it turns out that he was adopted as a child and ever knew who his biological father was. Three of the guys who were close atches have called him (he doesn't have a computer) and they say he was ickled pink to talk to someone whom he was related to!!!! This just appened last week and we haven't figured out where he fits in, but isn't hat half of the fun of genealogy?? ulie --- On Wed, 4/29/09, web-czar@rcn.com <web-czar@rcn.com> wrote: rom: web-czar@rcn.com <web-czar@rcn.com> ubject: [IOWA] DNA Tests o: IOWA@rootsweb.com ate: Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 10:32 AM I have seen several offers for DNA testing connected with Genealogy. Has anyone actually done this and what is the success rate in finding ncestors using it? Are there additional fees related to finding people after it has been done? And why are there various types offered - one for fathers side and one for others side and now tests to link you all the way back to caveman days - hy? For someone who doesn't have a lot to spend but still interested in enealogy, is any one testing offer more reliable or accurate than another?
