(widow Chas) 1709 24th I don't have any Wooley listings. I hope this helps! -----Original Message----- From: Lorraine Besmer [mailto:besmerlk@gwtc.net] Sent: Saturday, January 01, 2005 10:05 PM To: IOWA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Leslie, Wooley, Shinn query I am looking for a family that was in Woodbury County, IA in 1920. On the census report are Mont and Frances Leslie Shinn; twins, Robert and Roberta Shinn age 6; Frances' mother, Lucetta Leslie; Francis' sister, Marion C., Leslie age 16; and Mont's father, Andrew Shinn. Lucetta's husband, father of Frances and Marion, Charles S. Leslie was a double cousin to my grandfather, Karl L. Leslie. Frances worked for a newspaper in the Sioux City area in about 1930. Lucetta and Charles were married at Independence, Buchanan County, IA. They may have had other children. I have a photo of Frances and another of Marion. I also have a photo of "Bert" (Roberta) Shinn and J. Leslie. I am looking for information as well as descendents, if possible. Any help is appreciated. I am also looking for information on Charles S. Leslie's siblings, Lillabore Leslie born about 1855, Frank A. Leslie, born about 1862 and "Lizzie" Leslie born about 1864. Charles was born about 1857. Their parents were John Leslie and Elizabeth Pearsall Leslie who resided at Independence, Buchanan County IA. John Leslie died in August 1868 at Independence, IA. In 1879 when Elizabeth's father, Horace B. Pearsall, died, her name was Elizabeth Moore. She is listed in the 1880 census as Eliza Moore ( no husband listed) in Denver, Arapahoe County, CO. Frank and Lizzie are mentioned in the household there. My grandfather said his aunt, Lizzie Moore lived in Denver. I would like to know if there were any other children born to Charles S. Leslie and Lucetta Wooley Leslie or Frances Leslie Shinn and Mont Shinn. I would like to know if there are any descendents of this family. Any information would be appreciated. Thank You! 1. Schenck, 1920 or 1930
    2. Lana
    3. Happy New Year! In 1900, my g g g aunt lived in Burr Oak, IA with her husband, Fayette C. Schenck (also sp. Schanck/ Shank). They owned & operated the Burr Oak Hotel, and Fayette also was owner of the Burr Oak Mercantile for a time. In 1910, they are in Wenatchee City, Chelan Cty, Washington with a daughter, Ruth, and a son, Bernard Harden Schenck and his wife ( I believe her name is Mattie). What I am wondering is if someone would be kind enough to look for any of these names... either in Iowa or Washington in 1920 & 1930. I am trying to determine if they stayed in Washimgton or went home to Iowa, and whether there are any other children listed, or names of children for Bernard & Mattie. Perhaps Ruth & her husband were in the household later on? This would be a great help, as I am trying to find living descendants of Fayette & Chloe. Thanks so much in advance for any of your time & help. Lana Piche' Saskatchewan, Canada

    1. IAGenWeb Monroe Co. updates
    2. Tim West
    3. Happy New Year everyone. The first update for the year on the IAGenWeb Monroe Co. site http://iagenweb.org/monroe/ is the new Monroe County Coal Mine page. you can view the page at http://iagenweb.org/monroe/coalmines.htm . The page contains several pictures of coal mines, a tour through an Albia Coal Mine, maps to a few of the mines, the Inspector's list of coal mines in 1895, Inspector's list of coal mine accidents , some newspaper articles about mine accidents, including the disaster at lost creek mine, and info about some old coal miners, such as photos, obits, and bios. The area about old coal miners is pretty bare, so if you have ancestors who were coal miners and would like to contribute their photos, obits, or bios, please let me know. I need your help in making this a success, and maybe someone else searching the same family will see your ancestor and be able to break down a brick wall or something. I hope everyone enjoys the coal mine page. Tim West CC Monroe Co. IAGenWeb http://iagenweb.org/monroe/

Does it also access the Heritage Quest books and publications on line? I use HQ books more than the censuses to document trees and births and get town histories. Jan Nelson

    1. Jackson Twp, Hardin Co Poor Farm
    2. Does anyone have information on the Jackson Twp, Hardin County Poor Farm that existed in 1900 (and may still exist) ? I am specifically looking for information on a Hulda/Huldah Locey/Locy who was listed there as an inmate in the 1900 Census and possibly in the 1920 Census also. There is no information available on the Hardin County site, nor the Poor Farm site, and I am trying to find out where these souls were buried and if records exist that might shed some light on this ancestor. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Happy New Year! Judy Neu Springwater, NY
