    1. Stewarts in Van Buren and/or Henry County
    2. Karen Conroy
    3. Hi list, I cannot find my Stewarts in the 1850 census so may have been on their way to the above counties in Iowa and were in the above counties throughout most of the 1850's before some moved to Johnson County, Iowa William H. Stewart born in Harrison Co. Ky. in 1804 At some time after 1849 he married a second wife named Mary born about 1820. May have married her in Ky. or Iowa. She was born in Kentucky. James W. Stewart son born 1829 John Thomas Stewart son born 1835 Martha Jane Stewart daughter born 1836 Robert M. Stewart son born 1840 Samuel H. Stewart born 1842 Charles A. Stewart born 1844. There were three younger girls who either died or were farmed out with relatives when the mother of the above children (except James W. whose mother died in 1829) died about 1849. All children born in Ky. although James W. might have been born in Ohio. I know Martha Jane married Benjamin Ingels in Van Buren Co. in 1855 having supposedly first married a Tuttle. I am curious if they are somewhere in the Iowa census of 1850 or any state census. The father William, his third wife Mary, and Sam and Charles had moved to Johnson Co., Mo. by 1860. After that I lose William. Karen -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.300 / Virus Database: 265.8.6 - Release Date: 07/02/05

    1. Packwoods in Iowa
    2. Kaye, Try the 1925 Iowa census. The children born in the 1890's might be living in Iowa and all of the girls may not have married. If you can find anyone on this census it will give you the mothers maiden name and where the parents were married. As I am sure you know the records are not always accurate. I am looking for decendents of Charles and Sarah [Cook] Shields. Their youngest daughter Lucy married James Trobough. On one of their childrens records she is listed as maiden name, Lucy Sears! But I think it is worth a try. Good luck Pat patundrwd@aol.com

    1. Iowa State census
    2. Fellow searchers, I am looking for Mary [Shanley] and Charles Sheils. They came from Ireland and married in Ct. The 1860 census shows a boy names Daneil born in 1855 in Illinois. 1855 Ill. state census does not record the family. They do not appear in the 1856 Iowa census in Pottawattamie Co. where they lived from 1858 on. The following counties in the Iowa 1856 census have been transcribed: Appanoose, Benton, Boone, Cass, Cerro Gordo, Davis, Franklin, Hardin, Jasper,Jefferson, Kossuth, Lee, Lucas, Louisa, Monroe, Montgomery, Polk & Des Moines City, Sac, Shelby, Story, Tama, Van Buren, Wapello, Washington, Wayne, Webster and Wright. 1. [Iowa] Correction on my previous post, Perry twp. Tama County, Iowa re:Cadys
    2. Hi list, I was just kindly reminded that I should specify I am looking for information from Perry twp, which is in Tama County. There is also a town of Perry in Dallas County. Thanks! Janet I am looking for some help in finding two of my great grandparents children. I am searching for the death places and dates of Elizabeth (Betsey) Cady and David C. Cady. Elizabeth Cady Hart, b. 1840 is found last in the 1870 census in Perry, Tama County Iowa in 1870. She is living with her husband James Hart, living next to her parents, Hial Cady's. By 1880 census her husband James is listed without Elizabeth with their children in the household of Julius Cady, in Buena Vista County. Julius is a brother of Elizabeth and Hial also lives with them. James Hart is listed as widowed. The youngest child in the 1880 census was born about 1877. Making it likely that Elizabeth died around 1876, I can find only one cemetery in Tama county online, hoping someone might be able to help me find information. David C. Cady b. 1846 is last found also on the 1870 census in Perry, Tama County Iowa. He is living in the household of his parents, Hial Cady's. He is single. According to the obituary of his Mother, Polly Cady, he was no longer living in 1880 when she passed away. Since Hial and Polly Cady are buried in Buena Vista County, it seems like it would be more likely Elizabeth and David died in Tama County before the family moved on to Buena Vista around 1879.

    2. Dick Tague
    3. Laura, There are any number of reasons we cannot find our folk on a given census. Some were missed, others refused to give the information, or whatever. But usually it's because people were not enumerated as, or living, where we anticipate them to be. Try posting your specific query to the list, with enought data to identify them. If the volunteers on the Iowa-L can't find 'em, they never existed in the first place. Dick May you live to be a hundred, with an extra year to repent! 1. Robert and Elizabeth Adams
    2. Seeking any information on Robert and Elizabeth Adams in Fayette, Linn, Iowa in 1860-70. Robert Adams is gone on 1870 census. I think he was killed in Civil War and I am trying to get that record now. Where is he buried? Also, on 1880 Census in Missouri Elizabeth arrives with Ellen, Griffin, and John. William Adams born 1851, in Illinois is missing. Also Alice Adams, born 1853 in Illinois is missing. The family lived in Fayette, Linn, Iowa through 2 census records. Thanks, Doris Barnhart
