My great grandmother was Mary Catherine Mitchell, b 1835. She married Daniel Kern, 1840-1870. Their only son, Edward Lester Kern was my grandfather. Mary Catherine (Kate) had numerous siblings: Thomas, Daniel, Ellen, Stephen, Robert Herrod, Sarah, Minerva, Melissa. Their parents were Robert Mitchell and Elizabeth Hole. Robert's parents were Thomas Mitchell and Elizabeth Harmon Thomas Mitchell's parents were Robert Mitchell, 1740-1825 and Elizabeth Capbell. Most of these people lived and died in and around Salem, Washington County, IN. Although Daniel Kern and Kate Mitchell only had one son, Daniel had many siblings: Obadiah, Edward F. Mary, George W., Jacob, Susan, Jane. The parents of these children were Daniel Kern, Jr. and Elizabeth (Litha) Thomas. Daniel and Elizabeth are buried in the Salem area. I'm wondering if any cousins are still living in the area and if anyone wants to tell me more about the Mitchells or the Kerns and other family members. Hoping to hear more. Linda

Since I have both Mitchell & Kern/s connections in southern Indiana thought I would add mine in also - In my SINEX genealogy I have a Mary Ann SINEX b. ca 1838 who married Thomas D. Mitchell in Floyd County, February 11, 1856 and they had 4 known (to me) children: George M., Laura J., Mary L., Louis C. I also have a SINEX & KERN/S connection in Floyd County & Washington County and a 3rd great aunt Jane WAUGHTELL married into a KERNS line through SUMMA connection in Washington County.
