I could be wrong, all sorts of reasons could be given that the Jr. was after his name, and the Washington Co. history shows no mention of Joseph Jr. in connection with the Joseph, Catharine & Susan walton, their daughter. A child born late, as I recall, to Joseph & Catharine was called Joseph Peter, so why would they name a child Joseph if they already had one??? Or would they? That Jr. on his stone really throws me!. Cynthia Stephenson Walton Maudlin is of course buried in Worth Co. MO, right on the Iowa border I was told, and sent a pic of the stone. Anyway, you guys probably know all this already, but I thought I would put my 2 cents in, as I live just a few miles from Tabor where Joseph Walton Jr. is buried. Hugs, Mabel
This branch of the Walton family is very unclear, I agree. I have at least 5 Joseph Waltons in this branch. 1. Joseph, the son of Daniel and Margaret Smith Yost, who married Catherine Kern. (I call him, Joseph, Sr.) His children were: Margaret married Lemuel Coulter Susan married Adam Cauble Martha married Lewis Agan Daniel R. (I know nothing about him.) Elizabeth married Thomas Combs John Wilson married Margaret Denton Mary Ellen married Henry G. Rawlings 2. Joseph P. born abt 1841 and died Oct 25, 1850 No. 2 3. Joseph Walton, Jr. who married Cynthia Stephenson Children, John R., Silas, Mary Jane, Benjamin, Joseph F. and Franklin 4. Joseph F. Walton (son of Joseph just above) married Martha Evaline Chastain 5. John R. had a son named Joseph who married Dora Ellen Chastain I have never found clear records of what happened to Isaac Walton, the son of Daniel and Margaret Smith Yost Walton. I know he went to Washington Co, but can't find any marriage records for him, anywhere. So, wife, children, etc. are vague, to say the least. 1820 Indiana Census shows Isaac Walton in Jefferson Co, IN (Page 283) 1 male 26-44; 1 female 16-25 1820 Isaac Walton Voted in Wash Co, IN (Voters List Wash Co. Commissioner Records) June 2, 1838 Isaac Walton & Joseph Walton were executors of their mother's estate in Washington Co, IN. Probate Court Minute Book C Washington County, Indiana page 113 Tuesday May 14 1839 Isaac Walton Executor of Margaret Walton dcd files in Court an Account Current with said Estate and Vouchers No 1 to No 5 inclusive, amounting to $14.33 cts in discharge of all the outstanding Debts against said Estate and also Distributive Vouchers No1 & No2 And the Last Will & Testament of Said decedant fully Executed as to all the heirs excepting Catharine Biles, Who has not Received her portion, and to Whom the Said Executor is bound to pay One Dollar when demanded Which when paid Will be in full of his Administration of the Said Estate and said Will fully executed. 1840 Wash Co, IN Vernon Township census shows Isaac Walton Males, 1 10-15; 1 15-20; 1 40-50 Females 1 under 5; 1 5-10; 1 10-15; 1 40-50 Isaac and Joseph lived side by side in this census. The 1840 Census, shows him with a family though, 2 sons and 3 daughters. Then I can't find him in the 1850 census, anywhere I try. Any suggestions?
