This is in reply to the following message which I received yesterday from Rarihokwats (four_arrows@canada.com) inquiring about the relationship between Eleanor MCGREW (d/o John MCGREW of Salem, Washington Co., IN), b. 1808, and my ggggg-grandmother, Jane MCGREW (d/o Robert "Dady", Finley, William, Robert), b. 1807, of Sullivan Co., IN. See the following report which appears on my home page: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE11-0013.html Janes's ancestry can be found under: Generation 8, persons 190, 191, and their 12 children Generation 9, persons 380, 381, and their 5 children Generation 10, persons 760, 761, and their 5 children Generation 11, persons 1520, 1521, and their 5 children Also see related archived postings listed below. Although I do believe that Eleanor and Jane are somehow related, I have not yet found the exact connection. The "Sullivan County Historical Society, Inc., Newsletter" of Nov., 1987, Vol. 14, No. 6, pgs. 66 - 68, included an article entitled "An Obituary That is Really a Biography". The subject of the article was Eleanor MCGREW GAMBILL COMBES. It included the text from Eleanor's obituary entitled "Indiana's Oldest White Woman Goes to Reward", which appeared in "The Sullivan Daily Times", Feb. 23, 1917. Eleanor's obituary included a great deal of genealogical information, both about her ancestors and her children. At the conclusion of the text was also an additional paragraph mentioning that another article had appeared in "The Sullivan Daily Times", Oct. 11, 1909, talking about Mrs. COMBES's 100th birthday party. I am also a descendant of MCGREWs from this same area, but I have not yet found a connection between Eleanor's father John and my MCGREWs. ...
