My 3rd great grandparents were William S Walker & Louisa (nee' Leffler) Walker. William died in 1898 and Louisa died in 1892 ~ I have obits stating both ~ ~ now the problem is, although they are shown in the 1850, 1860, 1870 Indiana census husband/wife in the 1880 census "they" are not shown but William is shown with wife Susan and of course daughter Nancy (she never married, lived her entire life caring for her parents). The "writing" of the name Susan cannot be mistaken as a possible "Louisa". No other name has been known for Louisa although I have seen her shown as Eliza in one instance. Why would she be Louisa in so many census' but Susan in the one?? Does anyone know whether Susan may have been her true given name and she had only gone by the possible middle name of Louisa? Or did the enumerator hear wrong, write wrong, or ?!? Can anyone help me with this? Thank you for taking the time to read this. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)
