Hi, Am new to the list, but have been researching in Washington County and Owen County for a few years. We are searching for a George Robinson/Robertson/Robison family in Washington Co. His dates are (ca 1810-1860). The census reports claim he was born in KY. We find him in the Washington Co in 1840 and 1850. Sometime between 1850 and 60 the family moves to Owen Co, IN along with family of eldest son, Isaac (1832-1861). George Robinson marries Catharine Tucker in Washington Co in 1830. After George moves to Owen Co., he becomes something of a mystery. His wife and daughters continue to live in Gosport, but we're not able to find a cemetery listing in either Owen or Washington Co. We know that some of the Robinson/Robertson/Robison families moved to Putnam Co. but haven't been able to fine George there either. Can anyone connect this George to any of the families listed in the 1820 or 30census listings? We've not been able to find parents for George or sibs either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Judy Weisberg, Columbus, OH
I have just made a major update adding 1,700 persons, 677 direct descendants. This web site encompasses 38,941 individuals and 13,918 families out of a total database of 58,689 relatives. Direct descendants of Richard Wright, Sr. include 26,959. The rest are closely related. Major Surnames include Allen, Cauble Colglazier, Cooley, Gilstrap, Goss, Hazel, Hill, Hinds, Johnson, Marshall, Martin, Monical, Morgan, Moss, Mullenix, Naugle, Parrish, Purlee, Ratts, Voyles, Wingler, Wright and Zink. Most of these families emigrated to Edgar County, Illinois; Putnam & Washington Counties, Indiana; Greene County, Iowa; Kansas and Missouri. The largest update used the 1880 LDS CDROM Census to verify and add Richard Wright, Jr grand and great grandchildren. I have filled in the residence, when the person is found. An easy way to check is to look at the residence date. If it is 1880, The info came from the census. I plan to continue with all Richard Wright, Sr descendants. Other updates include adding descendants of the following among others: 1. Nancy Wright/Richard Gilstrap 2. Richard Cox/Martha Moss 3. James Coleman/Frances Martin 4. John Tash, Sr. 5. Janus Morgan/Mary Davis 6. Andrew Fouts/Rachel Merrill 7. Noah Fouts/Jane Wright 8. Martha Wright/James Davis 9. Asa Wright/Phoebe Martin 10. Peter Martin/Sarah Redding 11. Robert Nelson Wright/Ida Hellyer 12. Benjamin Franklin Wright/Mary Duncan 13. William Ezra Wright 14. David Blue/Sarah Wright 15. John Coleman/Susan Royston 16. McCajah Wright/Holland Whisunhunt 17. John Perisho/Catherine Zink 18. Burgess Wright 19. Rachel Goss 20. Benjamin Davis/Sarah Gilstrap Also corrected Amos Wright (b1804) birth location & Evans Wright (b1798) birth date I would appreciate any comments, additions and corrections. Hello list, I am a descendant of the Andrew family of Washington co, Bennet and Leah, their youngest son Joshua Travis Andrew and wife Betsy Loyd, their son Thomas Jonathan Andrew and wife Margaret Annis Brown, their eldest son James Milton Andrew and wife Martha Elizabeth Van Meter. Thomas brought his family to Kansas to homestead in Hodgeman co Kansas in 1884, and was murdered in 1888. His wife took the family east to Missouri, except for James and Charles who stayed here at Gypsum, Ks, and the rest wound up at Pulaski Iowa, where Margaret is buried. Interested in hearing from all cousins from there and elsewhere. Jim Andrew
from The Republican (Danville, IN), issue of 4/25/1895--page 2, column 4: The death of Alfred Hitchcock occurred Wednesday after a long illness during a large portion of which he was entirely helpless. The funeral was Friday morning from the Methodist church under the auspices of the G.A.R. Rev. Orcutt read an interesting sketch of the life of the deceased prepared by Judge Denny, of Indianapolis of which a synopsis follows. Alfred Hitchcock was born in 1829 in Washington county, Indiana, and died in Danville, April 17th 1895. In his early childhood his parents moved to Hendricks county and later to Danville where they lived until the fall of 1842. His father died in 1842 and his mother married Robert Denny and died in Indianapolis in 1887. In 1852 Mr. Hitchcock and Miss Martha Ann White were married in Washington county Indiana, who with four children survives him. Eleven children were born to them, two of which died in infancy and five in later life. In 1859 Mr. Hitchcock joined the Christian church. In July 1861 he enlisted with the 23! rd regiment Indiana volunteers and was discharged in December 1862 by reason of disability incurred in the service. In August 1863 he again volunteered in the 117th regiment and was mustered out February 1864. He then volunteered as a member of the 21st regiment (First Heavy Artillery) and was finally discharged in June 1865. It is a note-worthy fact that he, his three brothers and a step-father were all serving in the army at the same time. He was a good soldier and a patient sufferer in affliction. He enjoyed the religious services that were held from time to time at his bed-side. His death was like falling to sleep, softly, gently. The Grand Army Post has adopted appropriate resolutions on the death of this brave soldier. NOTE: I am not related to this person. I am posting this in hopes that it will help someone else in their research.

Hi, I see that Washington County has had many Winslow families. I am looking for the parents and siblings of my gg-grandfather, known only to me by the name of Eli Winslow. He was born about 1822 and he also lived in Ala., Miss. and in Ark. He was in the later part of the war and a Sgt. in the Confederacy. His wife was Demarias Britt of N.C. Thank you, Barbara
Jackson Co IN was just north of Washington county. Found a good web site where you can search cemeteries online. I have found a few Washington county folk at rest there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~injackso/cemetery.html
Margaret CHARLES md. Anderson PAVEY in Washington Co on 9/26/1842. They had 2 children: Anderson, b: 1844 and Betsy J, b: abt. 1847. Anderson died, and Margaret married David GUY on May 15, 1847. On the 1850 Wash. Co. (Jackson twp) census, it shows Margaret Guy as head of household with the 2 Pavey children and a Henry Charles, age 23 (probably brother) living together. Living next door to Margaret was a Wm. Charles, age 60 and Elizabeth, age 50 and children. My guess is that these were her parents (does anyone know for sure?) Also, does anyone know what happened to David Guy? Thanks. Marsha
