    3. Nita, Washington County has put out a book called Pioneer Pickings, which is a compilation of articles written about Washington county old timers, & published in the Salem Democrat newspaper around 1875, the information could have possibly come from that; or it could have possibly come from a book called Centennial History of Washington County Indiana by Warder Stevens, published in 1916. The Washington County Historical Society has quite a large family file too, from what I understand. Those would be places & books that I would check first. 1. [INWASHIN] Allen
    2. I have been researching the family of Micajah Allen of Stokes Co. NC, moved to Salem, Washington Co. IN after 1820 Census. I have found much information regarding his large family but cannot find where the source where this information was obtained. The 1820 Stakes Co. NC census lists several children but, of course, no names. He does not appear in the Stokes County Heritage books. Micajah died in 1833 IN, so am at a loss as to where all of the names of his children was obtained. I have found no record of a will or estate. Could someone throw some light on this? Thanks Nita Pearce Researching: Allen, Biby, Redmon, Pearce, Holcomb, Adams and Martin.

    3. Hi, I am new to the list and I am trying to track my husband's family from New York across Indiana. I was wondering if anyone had a 1830 census they could do a look up for me. I found them on the 1820 Washington County Census. Robert Clark He should have a wife, 3 boys and 3-4 girls. Of course on the 1820 census he had too many girls, must have had some children staying with them. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!!!! Donna

    1. MILLER
    2. Marsha McWilliams
    3. In the "History of Washington County" there's mention of an Isaac and Jacob MILLER who apparently settled in the area around 1809. Does anyone have any information on the Millers ...where did they migrate from and the names of their wives? Could one of these be the Indian scout "Miller" who ran with a "Pavey?" Thanks. Marsha

    2. Marsha McWilliams
    3. I'm still trying to locate the death date and burial place of Mary (Beaman) NEWBY. She was married to Samuel Newby (1776-1859) and was still living in 1870. A fairly good search of cemetery records has yet to uncover any of this information. I believe she probably was a member of the Mill Creek Church of Christ. Would there be old records anywhere for this church? Thanks. Marsha

    1. Rebecca E. Hall Kester Kelso
    2. G. Swoik
    3. Just a note. My earlier speculation that Rebecca, d/o William & Polly Thixton, married again to Quincy Kelso, is supported in the following census entry. 1900 -- Census - Washington Co., IN - Howard Twp #108-108 William Kester, 47, Sept 1852, Farmer Luvena O., wife, 40, Feb 1860 (no children) Rebecca E. KELSO, mother, widow, 77, Oct 1822 (4 children - 4 living) Clarence E. Kester, son, 10, Dec 1889 **Clarence would be son of first wife, Sarah Davis Gayle

    1. HALL/THIXTON FGS Corrections
    2. Marsha McWilliams
    3. On the previous FGS I posted for William Hall & wife, Mary Thixton, please correct the following: 1) Asa Hall died in 1847 (per Hall Cem. records ... not 1855) 2) Bluford Hall's biography stated he was born in KY (the 1850 census had stated Indiana) 3) Jackson Hall, died on October 24, 1875 (not 1887.) Thanks Gayle & Herb for bringing this to my attention. Marsha

    1. Rebecca Hall Kester
    2. G. Swoik
    3. There is a strong possibilty that Rebecca Hall Kester, d/o William Hall and Polly Thixton, married again after first husband William Kester died. There is a marriage recorded: Rebecca Kester -> Quincy Kelso, Oct 14, 1862 G 277 Quincy and Rebecca appear in the 1870 Census, Howard Twp, living within a couple houses of Jackson Hall, Ivy Hall, Asa Hall and a bunch of others. This tends to lean toward this being the Rebecca Hall Kester d/o William. Incidentally, in the 1870 census, she is listed as age 48, bringing her dob to about 1822, in line with the Rebecca d/o William. By the 1880 Census, Rebecca is still in Howard Twp (still living very near alot of Hall's). But, now she is listed as "Rebecca Kester" widow. My theory is: she married again after William Kester - to Quincy Kelso. But, Quincy died bet 1870 - 1880 and she took back her first married name. Maybe someone wants to look for Quincy (he doesn't appear in 1880) Gayle

    2. G. Swoik
    3. If you had read Marsha's note carefully, she said her records showed "Rebecca Hall" was buried in Hall Cemetery. She is quite correct.... Since all prior correspondence was referring to Rebecca's maiden name - Marsha merely responded accordingly. Hall Cemetery Index: Rebecca Long b. July 31, 1831 d. Nov 21, 1861 Father: Asa Hall Mother: Sarah (unknown) Wife of Aaron R. Long Married Nov 21, 1850 Asa is also listed in this index - clearly stating his parents as William Hall and Polly Thixton ----- Original Message ----- From: <GraveNews2@aol.com> To: <INWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 09, 2002 11:45 AM Subject: Long, Hall, Kester > Marsha, > You say "My records show Rebecca Hall b: July 31, 1831, d: Nov. 21, > 1861 and is buried in the Hall Cemetery." > I'm sorry, but I still don't see where the confusion is.
