Dear Tamara, I always enjoy your submissions to the Warrick Co. Rootsweb. One recent obituary caught my attention even tho' it did not involve a member of our family. That was the social security murder. I found myself in a similar situation about 1962 or 1963. If memory serves me right, the law at the time was that Social Security should be deducted from any household employee that earned more than $50.00 a quarter (every three months). Few people apparently obeyed the law and as witnessed by recent political appointments, few are still obeying the law. Half of the payment was to be made by the employer and half by the employee. I, too, had a cleaning lady and she became irate when I withheld her half of the payment. I finally decided that it wasn't worth the upset and I paid the entire payment myself. In this day of high Social Security deductions, you may be surprised to know that the money under dispute was just $.25 (25 cents) a week. Even if the cleaning woman worked a full week, instead of just a day, her probable deduction might not have been more than $1.25 a week. That is hardly worth committing murder for. Thanks again for all of your effort. Nancy
