    2. The following is the diary of Alma White, d/o George Washington White and Catherine Seitz. Alma was b. 16 September 1880 and d. 22 October 1898. She is buried in the Ebenezer Cemetery on highway 62 east of Boonville. Her diary must have been written in a book previously used for church purposes. Written on the first page: Roll of names of members of Boonville Congregation of the United Presbyterian Church and date of their reception. White On this 17 day of May 1897 I commence to keep diary - Alma White 17--Grandma and I went to Boonville today and cleaned house. 18--We sent one of our feather beds to Boonville to the feather renovator to have feathers cleaned. 19--Took my second music lesson of Miss Mabel Stone today. 20--Washed this morning and went to Winklers today. 21--Ironed and worked in garden today. 22--Today read of the death of Samuel A. Hull he was riding horse-back when someone from behind shot and killed him. 23--Emma Rothert and Carrie Hochmeister and myself all went to S.S. at German M.E. church this morning and got caught in a hard rain and we had to walk home in it and oh my if we werent pretty. Uncle George Seitz's children here. 24--Done various things. Went to Wrinklers and Eckles saw Carrie H. 25--Washed and practised my music lesson. 26--Took another music lesson of Miss Stone and ironed. 27--Went to grave yard and fixed graves. 28--Made a skirt and some aprons. 29--Baked and scrubbed and fixed for Sunday. Mamma went to Boonville. 30--Aunt Rosa's first daughter born today. June 1--Went down to see Ash Spirrgs this afternoon. 2--Took another music lesson from Miss Stone. Pa is 39 years old today. 3--We all went to Mr. G. H. Rollers tonight to a surprise on Rev. Henry Rollers wife, had lots of ice cream and cake about 23 were there. 4--Rev. H. B. Roller and family here this eve. 5--Went to P.O. Carrie Hachmeister here. Ed Gentry here at night. 6--Went to D(?)ake Mills with Ed Gentry to see Ida didn't get back till 2 o'clock at night. 7--Cut my Dimity waist and worked at it. Cecil and Harry Winkler here. 8--Papa had a monument erected for Grandpa (James P. White) today bought it of Mr. Wiley at Boonville paid $50 for it. Finished my waist and went down home and picked cherries. Grace Winkler here. The monument is erected at Midway Cemetary. 9--Took another music lesson. sewed and canned 1/2 gal. cherries. 10-Washed and sewed. 11-Ironed and went to P.O. 12--Finished my corset cover and fixed for Sunday. 13-Christian Church at Venison dedicated today. 14-Grandma (Rachael Gwaltney White) came home from Aunt Rosa's today. Awful hot. 15-Had a social tonight. 16-Dora Gemlich and Martin Rothert married tonight. Took a music lesson. 17-I raked hay this afternoon. 18-Raked hay had a hard wind this morning. 19-Went to P.O. looks very rainy. 20-Father and Mother and Noble (her brother) went to Aunt Rosa's. 21-Cut and fit my dress and raked hay. 22-Went ot Winklers. 23-Had a good rain things look green. 24-Grand opening of Ash Springs. H. L. Flanagan manager. Jimmie Woods buried today another good rain about lunch. 25-Cutting wheat, another rain. 26-Got a letter from Ida Yanney. 27-My cousin Adam Seitz married to Bertha Cohoon. My cousin Carrie Gurletz's child buried today. Old Mr. Royer buried yesterday. 28-Kate Garwood and daughter Bessie here from Boonville. 29-Raked hay awaful hot day. 30-Ironed. July 1--Picked geese. Sally Gwaltney and May Giles here. 2--Ada Simpson here. 3--Dr. Musgrove buried today. I went to DeGonia to a German Sunday School picnic. 4--Went to S.S. at German M.E. Church. 5--Washed and went to Wess Metzs. 6--Raked hay. Awful hot. Louis sick went home yesterday. 7--Selma and Lydia Veeck here. Noble sick. Went to Eckles. 8--Ironed and picked black berries. Awful hot. 9--Went blackberring. 10-Fixed for Sunday, had a good rain. 11-Rainy day. 12-Picked black berries nearly all day. 13-Della Sturgeon from Louisville here. Pa and Ma went to Boonville. 14-Not much account got a stiff neck. 15-My neck is a little better. Ironed, raining to cool to feel good. 16-Picked berries. Harvey Seitz came after me to help thresh. 17-Cooked all day for threshers almost worn out. Ed Gentry came here to stay all night. 18-Went to Griffin Wilkinsons to see the baby. Noble he is very sick. Came home from Wess Metz's this morning. 19-Picked blackberries almost all day over on Amos White's place. Noble 8 yrs. old today. 20-Mamma washed had a good shower. Ma and I went after bean poles this eve. 21-Mable Stone here this eve and gave her a sea onion. 22-Belle Johnson 30 yrs old today. Ironed and picked blackberries. 23-Mamma went and helped Lizzie Veeck cook for threshers--did not get done machine broke. 24-John and Manie Buxton and two children and Sally and Alice Gwaltney came here to stay all night. Buxtons live at Rockport. 25-Meteoricle display this morning about 4 o'clock, had company all day. 26-washed 27-I canned beets. Carrie here till bedtime. 28-Ironed, picked berries and took a music lesson. 29-Saw the eclipse of the sun. 30-Fixed for threshers. Machine came about half after 10 at night. 31-Mat Winkler got his leg broke yesterday. to be continued....
