Thursday Aug 17 1894 Oxley not a murderer. Sherriff Scales went to Stendale,Pike County las Sunday and arrested John Oxley age 23 yrs of near Selvin on charges of murdering John L Bethell 10 yrs ago near Selvin. Oxley being a braggart and alledged to have boasted of killing Bethell,He was brought here on Monday for trail on Tuesday before Squire Scales. It was proved several times that Oxley was not in the vicinity when the murder was committed he was set free, Bethell was riding horseback several miles northwest of Selvin in July 1884 when he was shot with a shotgun. ---- Bohannon-Johnson Mr Charles Bohannon and Miss Maggie Johnson were married at C P Church on Monday night by Rev M C Cockrum.
