    2. Continuation of the diary of Alma White: January 1898 1--Snowy all day. Uncle T. B. White here. 2--I went to church at German Church. 3--I went to school. 4--Ida and I went to Midway to a surprise party on Belle and Bertha Gwaltney. 5--We came home from Midway. 6--I wrote a letter to Ada Simpson 7--I went to visit Mr. Frank Shelton's school this evening. Ida and I went to J. W. Veecks to see Aunt Lizzes sister Carrie Hence. 8--I washed for Mrs. S. Eckles. Mr. W. E. Gentry came here tonight. 9--Rainy today. Pa and I went down to Mr. Leslies. Sun came out this eve saw a rainbow, the prettiest I ever saw. Ed went home. 10-I went to school today. Supt. Wilson visited our school. 11-Went to school. 12-Miss Josie Whittinghill and I went over to uncle T. B. Whites and staid alnight. 13-Went to school. 14-At school rained about all day. 15-Picked geese, gloomy day. 16-Lucy Haas, Lizzie Roth, Ida Roth here. Wess and Lillie and Walter Metz here. 17-I went to school. 18-Momma got her comforter out of the frames. 19-Rainy day. I had to wade water shoe top deep coming from school. 20-Went to school. 21-Pa and ma went to Boonville. 22-I washed for Mrs. Eckles. Rained almost all day. Cut a wrapper for Ida Yanney. 23-Ida and our family went to Bakers Chapel. Pa, Ma, and Noble went to August Haases for dinner. Ed Gentry came to see Ida. 24-A lovely day looks like spring. 25-A hard rain this morn. A high wind the rest of the day. About the strongest wind I ever saw. 26-Ida and I went to a carpet ball party at John Kleins had a fine time. 27-I went to school today. Noble is sick. 28-Noble still sick. I staid at home this morn and went over to DeGonia school this afternoon to see Mr. Ed Skelton, he used to be my teacher. 29-Pa took Mr. Ed Meullough of Indianapolis over to Uncle Will Gwaltneys at Midway. 30-Snowed this morn and rained this eve. I was at home all day. Charlie Seitz here for dinner. 31-Went to school. February 1--Uncle Will Gwaltney brought Mr. Ed Meullough over here to get on the train for Mt. Vernon. 2--Groundhog day he got to see his shadow. Mamma went to a quilting at Mena Veecks. 3--I went to school today. Went to the schoolhouse tonight and practised pieces awhile and then went back to Gerhart Rollers pond and skated till after ten o'clock and staid alnight at Rollers. 4--Went to school. 5--Went to Mr. William Haas to a surprise party on Lucy had a good time. 6--S. Q. White and I went over to Midway to Theodore Whites. 7--I went to school, a warm day. 8--I went to school. 9--Went to the schoolhouse tonight to practise. 10-Mamma went to a quilting at Jim Ashes. 11-I went to the schoolhouse tonight. Sam W. came home with me. 12-Ma and I went down to Uncle T.B. Whites this afternoon drove 2 horses to the buggy. 13-I went to church this morning. 14-Went to the hall and practised. S. W. came home with me. 15-Our school had a grand exhibition tonight. Haas school and White school went together. School is out. 16-Willie and Lucy Haas and Sam White and myself went to Tenneyson today to see 2 of our old school teachers, Mr. Hoskerson and Mrs. St. Clair, their schools closed today. 17-I ironed today. Sue White here. 18-I washed for Mrs. S. Eckles. 19-I briggle around all day. 20-Staid home all day, snowy cold and bad. Charles Nonweiler two daughters here. 21-Snowed today. I sewed all day. Uly Simpson, Thomas and Pearly Lesley here. Papa went to the springs. 22-Alice haas here today. 23-Washed and went to visit W. H. Eiflers school today. 24-I ironed this morning. Ida and I went to Theodore Partridges. I learned how to crochet love, not lace. E. M. Nonweiler here. 25-Mrs. Mary Razor died. 26.-Mrs. Magee buried today. Ida went home. 27-Ferdinand Fluer's baby died. Jacob Mills buried at Boonville. I went to John Rothers. Wess Metzs here for dinner. Gus Kirsh and Sarah Bracher married. Ad Rice and Katie Baum married. 28-Grandma and Bessie went to Boonville. to be continued....
