Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Si.2ADI/1516.1.1.1 Message Board Post: This is most likely not your family BUT In the 1900 Anderson Twp of Warrick Co IN I noted a odd family of BATES headed by ELIZABETH BATES age 50 born July 1850 she is a widow with 11 children with 9 living including a son CHARLES 22 born DEC 1877. But the odd thing here is Elizabeth has 3 grandchildren with her and the last name of each grandchild has a line drawn thru it the name begins with a O or C The line thru the name makes it appear the grandchildren are named BATES as well One grandson is CHARLEY JR 8 BORN fEB 1891 . BUT Charles age 22 is single and one daughter of Elizabeth's named IDA age 26 is single with 1 child. So its not clear who was the father or mother to CHARLEY Jr age 8 or what his real last name is The other grandchildren grouped with young Charley are LILLIE 8 July 1893 and HERBERT 5 June 1895

He married Clarissa Whetstone born in Indiana. They had a son Mathias born in 1861. He married Mary Jane Pearson (daughter of William Pearson and Mary Ann Tuley) about 1895 in Warrick County and lived in Tynneson. They remained there until they both died. Mathias died about 1939 and Mary Jane(Janie) died somewhere around 1950. Was wondering if any of the Booneville or Warrick County Newspapers have an obit of either of them.
