    1. The History of Warrick
    2. Tamara Kincaide
    3. The history of some Warrick Co Churches, I know that this is not genealogy related in general But if your ancestors of Warrick were members of the following churches it may be a nice sidebar to your family tree folders... Epworth Methodist Church Prior to 1851 a Baptist Church stood where Epworth United Methodist Church now stands. This was known as Salem meeting house with seats made of split logs,it was very plain and had no musical instrument. The land had been deeded by Robert Clocky. On Mar 26 1851 a deed was recorded at Boonville by Simon Lane to Epworth Church stating this land be used for the almighty God.The price 100 dollars. In Apr 1868 a contract was let to John R Bell to build a frame building thirty or fourty feet on a brick foundation one story high, three windows on each side, with two doors on front with a raised platform. All at a cost of 1,280 dollars. A basement and vestibule were added later. This building was used until 1957 when the new church was completed . The older building was purchased by the congregation and used as Epworth School House until 1967 when a spacious new parsonage was built on that site and ajoining land that was deeded by Frank Stacer. - ------------------------------------ The Methodist were the first religous group to hold meeting in Newburgh. The first preaching was done by circuit riders in private homes until 1851 when a church was erected on Methodist Hill just east of the Russel McKinney home at a cost of 3500 dollars. The first resident pastor was Reverend Week. In July of 1924 a new church was built at the intersection of Jennings and Hwy 62,On Feb 8 1953 the mortgage was burned on the church . It was a ever growing congregation and in 1972 a newer modern building was erected and the Rev Holloway was the pastor. ------------------------ The Cumberland Presbyterian Church organized in 1839 ,They met in school houses until 1841 when the church was built in Newburgh,They had 27 members in the congregation with Rev Hiram Hunter the first pastor. He was suceeded by Rev Benjamin Hall who served 22 years during which time the congregation grew to 180 members. In 1906 they changed its named to Neburgh Presbyterian. In 1964 they voted to sell the old church and build a new one,And so on May 22 1966 the first service was held on Hwy 662 East with Rev Ben Lenhart its pastor. The town of newburgh purchased the old building which is now the site of Newburgh Town Hall. It now houses the water and sewer offices as well as park board,It is used for various town board meetings. ----------------- Masonic Temple prior to 1867 met in the old Odd Fellows Hall and in a hotel located at Water and Monroe Streets. In Dec 1867 dedication ceremonies were held for a new building on State St in Newburgh. The Mason's occupied the third floor until Apr 21 1962. The cornerstone ceremony for the new building was held Nov 25 1961 on two acre plot at Jefferson and Monroe St. - -------------------------- St John's Catolic church began 1862 before the start of the civil war with 15 families who assembled at the home of Henry Weiss. The first mass was offered by Father F Z Kutassi. In 1863 the church selected a site at Market and Jennings Street in Newburgh for its building and in 1865 a cornerstone was laid In 1867 it was dedicated by the VERY Rev Martin Marty OSB It enlarged under Father Charles Wagner A new rectory completed 1939 and a new school started in 1940. Now the church has grown from 15 families to 500 by 1973. A new building was erected in 1960 on 11 acres on Frame Road. - -------------------------------- Tamara's Genealogy http://www.angelfire.com/in/tamaraspage/index.html Tamara's Page for Ind & Ky Grave Inscriptions 20 Pages of Cemeteries Many Surnames http://www.angelfire.com/in/tamaraspage/page8.html Warrick Co Ind Mystery Photo's http://www.angelfire.com/in/tamaraspage/page29.html

    3. Dear Cathie, Thanks for taking the time to share information from your families' diaries. I do have a WHITE line out of Daviess and Pike Counties and don't see any familiar names, nonetheless it is very interesting to read about what was happening in the area in the late 1800's.
