Through Yahoo Yellow Pages I found: Barnett's Chapel 6500 Meinert Rd Lynnville, IN 47619 (812) 983-4982 I tried searching Stanley, but had to go to Chandler and Elberfeld the "areas beyond." Hope this helps someone. Linda I could not find a separate cemetery listing.
Hi, Tamara. Unfortunately, they aren't the ones. BUT, I have been checking your cemetery listings and thank goodness for them. You have done a GREAT job on those site! Would you happen to know anything about Barnett Chapel and cemetery? I talked to my great Aunt Rosa SKELTON Shephard today, she seems to remember that her parents and grandparents are buried there. Said there is a white church. She is 96 now, and memories are fading fast. Would you also know where I could get a detailed map of the area? Like, Elberfeld, Lynnville? Would there be any web sites I might check that would have an "old" map of Stanley, Ind, back to maybe, late 1800's early 1900's? I know you would best know since you are a "professional" at this. I am still a beginner. Does anyone have anything on the parents of Mary Alice Irons, wife of Frederick Cook, who died in 1993 and is buried in Barnett Chapel Cemetary at Stanley? I think her father was John or William Irons (from Carruthersville, MO, and her mother was Eliza Hale. She was Frederick Cook's 2nd wife and mother to my grandfather, Edward Cook. Frederick's 1st wife, Elizabeth Butcher, was murdered by an Edward Leyer, in 1876, when he put copious amounts of arsenic in their well. Back to Mary Alice Irons' parents: Did they die in Warrick? Where are they buried? Anything would be appreciated. Cookie, in Florida , [email protected] >
Klaryse... Stanley, Indiana was indeed a community in Warrick. If you would draw a line due east from Elberfeld and due north from Chandler, Stanely would be just about where the two lines cross. The church there is Barnett Chapel and it sits on the south side of the road about a quarter-mile west of where Stanley used to be situated. Directly across the road is the Barnett Cemetary. I've been there more times than I can count. The last time I was there (about 4 years ago), the church was still functioning and the cemetary was well-cared for. My family, the Cooks and tIrons, are buried there. The cemetary is much older than the church, I think. My great-grandfather, Frederick Cook, was buried there in 1883 (and his murdered first wife, Elizabeth Butcher was buried there in 1876), and I seem to remember the church celebrating its 50th anniversary in 1959. At the time my father said he remembered going to the dedication of the church when he was a small boy, about 8 yrs. old. The town of Stanley was shown on maps as late as the early 1950s. I can remember a general store, a gas station, and a couple of houses there. My father, who as a small boy lived on a farm located about a half mile north of Millersburg and which backed up to the old Wabash-Erie canal, said he could remember going up to Stanley to see a "lantern show," which was put on by his uncle, Joshua Cook. He said it was cold and his father heated up many bricks, put them in the wagon bed, covered them with straw, and that with blankets, so they could be warm while they rode up there. Quaint memories. Hope this helps you. Does your mother not remember her mother's maiden name? Are you any kin to the husband of Mrs. Skelton who was a teacher at Lynch School on Oak Hill Road, in Evansville? I believe her husband was a nephew of "Mac" McKinney who owned Mac's Barbecue in Evansville. Cookie, in Florida < [email protected] >
Hi, My great aunt, Rosa Mae SKELTON Shephard, b:5/4/1903, who is still alive and well, said she was born in Stanley, Indiana. Her parents, William Sherman SKELTON and Ella/Elmirah _______ are buried in a Stanley, Indiana cemetery just off of or near Route 57. She also said the church is still there. Whatever that church may be, I don't know. Was there ever a town of Stanley back in the early 1900's? Does it still exist? Please, Help. Klaryse Ellis-Adams Oak Lawn, Il [email protected]

On page 3 is ANDERSON Cemetery in anderson twp yankeetown ind, I had noted that Nancy Vanada although once buried here may have been removed to BATES HILL Cemetery per a relative,I went to Bates hill over the weekend and found that indeed she was moved there she shares a marker with SOLOMON VANADA he was one of the first settlers of Anderson Twp after BAILEY ANDERSON for which it was named. I put a pic of the Nancy & Solomon marker from BATES HILL on page 3 in Anderson Cemetery in case you wish to view it. My research does not prove that SOLOMON was moved but I can assume that if his wife NANCY was he too is re-interred at BATES Hill. Also I have yet to find where BAILEY ANDERSON of Anderson Twp is interred as yet..If anyone knows email me.
