    3. Gilbert, Thank you so much for the inforamation you sent along. I had been told that it probably was named for a "developer's wife" sometime back but I didn't get the information about the development of the property from the aspect of being connected with one of the coal mines. That is enlightening. Yes, there is a possibility that the wife of the developer has a family connection. That is something else I have thought about and I will need to find out the name of the developer. I realized that the distance would have been quite great 150 years ago. That was what was bothering me with this..I would be interested, however, if someone could give me an approximate idea of where the ferry ran from Kentucky to Indiana in that area. Was it located so that it came into downtown Newburgh? What is the origin of the name Yankeetown Road? Also, is there a French Island Road on the Indiana side of the river..or is there only one on the Kentucky side? Thank you. Marilyn

    1. [INWARRIC] Penila Drive
    2. Dan and Marilyn Garrison
    3. I am most interested in the name of a street (actually a short road) in Warrick County right outside the east side of Newburgh, not far from the Spencer County line. Follow Indiana 66 east to Yankeetown Road..head north to Bethany Church Road and almost immediately a little lane comes in on the right called PENILA DRIVE. I found out about this little road just about 4 months ago and I have not been able to come up with a reason for its name and I really would like to find out about it if possible. It seems to deadend after just a few yards as it head south...at least it turns into a dirt lane at best. There are just a few houses on the little drive. The reason I am interested is..the first Penila I can confirm in my family was Penila Heppler, my great-grandmother, born 1855 in Newburgh. Her father was Conrad Heppler and her mother Bathsheba Hebard. Bathsheba was a native of Hebbardsville, KY. Penila's father, Conrad was a German native. He was a tailor in Newburgh. Five children, 3 boys and 2 girls were born into this family. At some point, Bathsheba moved back across the river and Grandpa Conrad stayed in Newburgh and worked..coming across the river about every other week or so to be with the family. As I am sure most will realize, the name Penila is a most unusual name. It has followed down through my family from an aunt to my daughter and now my little granddaughter. It is one that I haven't heard outside of our family and until I heard about this street when my daughter and her family recently found it while looking for a home, I didn't know a street existed by that name in that area. I have no idea where the Heppler family lived while they were residing in Newburgh. I would appreciate any ideas that anyone might have about how I can find out about this street. Thank you. Marilyn Cossler Garrison.

I am looking for the marriage record for Agnes Gentry to John Phillips married 1/26/1799 (?) in Surry Co, NC. and said to have settled in Warrick Co, IN after 1810. Another source says Agnes Gentry married William Hodges. I'm not sure which is correct. Maybe both? I am able to find the marriage record for Edmon Phillips (John's brother?) to Mary Chinn on line. PHILLIPS","Edmon","CHINN","Mary",1,"Dec","1806","Surry Co.","NC" But the only John Philips marriage on line in NC seems to be to someone else (copied below.) PHILLIPS","John Samuel","SEITZ","Salome",4,"May","1794","Friedland","NC" (better known as Stokes Co, NC I think) John Philips and Salome Nissen are HOHs in the 1790 Stokes Co, NC census along with Lucy and Claburn Gentry and Richard and Joseph Philips. Thanks for any help. Wanda
