Hello! I am new to this list today. Recent research and assistance from other MATTHEWS / MATHEWS researchers has led me to the family of Job and Priscilla MATTHEWS who died in Warrick County, Indiana in the mid-1800s. I descend from Jacob MATTHEWS who appears to be their son. Here is what I know about him. My Jacob was born 1790-1800. Married Katherine SHULL in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky 2 Sept. 1819. Moved to White County, Illinois before 1830. In 1830 he is listed as one of the first members of the Mt. Pleasant Church at Burnt Prairie, Illinois. 1830 Federal Census of White County, Illinois: Page 25, Line 4, for Jacob MATHEWS family: 1 male, aged 30-40 (born 1790-1800) 1 male, under 5 years (born 1825-1830) 1 female, aged 30-40 (born 1790-1800) 1 female, aged 10-15 (born 1815-1820) 2 females, aged 5-10 (born 1820-1825) We cannot find Jacob MATTHEWS on the 1840 or the 1850 census of White County, Illinois, but his wife is there with children. Then we found in the old Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Records at Burnt Prairie, Illinois the following minutes recorded . . . April 1838: . . . "in as much as Bro. Jacob MATTHEWS left his family for several years and has not returned and not knowing whether he is dead or alive, this Church drops fellowship with him." After this declaration by their church, and without apparent benefit of divorce or pronunciation of death, Katherine MATTHEWS married William BOTTOMS, 10 Nov 1839, White County, Illinois. Ceremony was performed by George HUNSINGER, J.P. We have more information on the children of this Jacob MATTHEWS. Can any of you see that this Jacob is the son of Job and Priscilla MATTHEWS of Warrick County, Indiana? He named one of his daughters Susannah MATTHEWS who married James Henry LEE, and I believe another was named Priscilla MATTHEWS who married Reece DANIEL , both marriages taking place in White County, Illinois. I will be most appreciative of any help. Debbie McArdle

Does anyone know whether or not these two cemeteries have web pages? Or, does anyone familiar with them (perhaps have relatives buried there), have an e-mail address? Are there any listings of gravesites or tombstones? Several years ago (maybe in the 1950s), a Mr. Dillingham supposedly had hand-rubbed every tombstone in the county. Does anyone know where these records can be accessed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I love this genealogy! Cookie, in Florida

Hi, I joined this list because of a picture I have that belonged to my stepfather, Ira Coe who was my Mom's second husband. I found the pictures & documents in my Mom's things and thought maybe I could help somebody with their Coe genealogy. First, I have a picture of Frank & Melinda Coe taken in Oakland City, IN, who was his grandparents. They had a son named Samuel and m. a Minerva and they had two sons, Ira and another. He had a brother and he or his wife was called Coley? and they lived in OH too. I also have a signed affidavit from Samuel Coe stating that Ira was born in Elberfeld, Warrick Co., IN. Ira later lived in Akron, OH before he moved to CA. If anyone can prove they're related, I would be happy to share copies with them. Hope I can help someone. Thanks. > Pat McAlpine > > >
Warrick and Posey researchers, The Migration Project was put together by Patrick Hays. There are still a lot of states and counties waiting to be adopted so take a look and think about it. Right now the information there is a bit thin but it's only been online a few days out of beta. As more researchers like ourselve enter our ancestors migration paths we will be able to do searches on them. One possibility is that we could find someone who came the same way at the same time. This could offer clues on neighbors and relatives we haven't been able to find yet. All kinds of possibilities here so start submitting those data. Gilbert ps. Sorry about the Posey mixup. Both pages are the same but going to different county entries. You will find links to the Migration Project in both pages and also in the main Migration Page. For those interested I also have the Spencer Migration page since it's right next door and a lot of people from Warrick came through Spencer.
