Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/Warrick?read=1154 Surname: Pearson, Masters, McDonald ------------------------- Hi Ed, It's very possible that there is a family connection here. The Nancy Pearson Masters I wrote about in my query was born in KY. Her mother, Elizabeth McDonald Pearson was born in NC and probably married there. The family then moved westward apparently through KY and she ended up widowed and in Warrick Co. in IN. I don't have any information on possible siblings to my Nancy but your Tipton sure could be her brother. I'll keep you in mind as I dig.

Below is a letter I sent to Earl Skelton and the reply back from him. If anyone can prove the missing documentation then please send this to me. Always remember that genealogy without documentation is mythology. If you do not have a copy of the record to prove an existance or know the source then a statement should be made in the notes that this is not proven evidence but speculated. ****************************************************************** Earl, For some time now I have been hearing about William's wife Sarah ____ being a Scales. There has also been sent to me information about William's line being traced back hundreds of years in England. I have made request for sources on this and I have received nothing to prove it. Have you heard anything or have new information? Gilbert ********************************** Dear Gilbert, In all modesty, I consider myself something of an expert on the history of the early Skelton families of North America. Moreover, I am the custodian of the legacy of the late Colonel George Byers to all Skelton families: 4 file drawers stuffed with Skelton data. As you may know, Colonel Byers was descended from both Scales and Skelton lines and spent a good part of his life researching both. Based on my own research and a thorough reading of all of Colonel Byers' papers, I can make the following two statements with a high degree of certainty: (1) Nothing has been uncovered to reveal the maiden surname of Sarah, wife of William Skelton (b. ca. 1743) and (2) nothing has been uncovered to reveal the parentage of William Skelton (b. c. 1743, probably in Virginia). It has been established that the Skeltons and Scales families traveled together, but assuming that William's wife, Sarah, was née Sarah Scales is pure speculation. William's Skelton line has not been traced beyond colonial Virginia, and even that is a guess... albeit a pretty good one. Thanks for asking. Earl

South Carolina. Married in Georgia in 1803 to William Levi Scales. Wm. b. 4 Feb 1785 and d. 18 jun 1848 in Warrick Co. Wm's father was Thomas Scales who served in the Revolution from Georgia. For the two I have 16 children listed born in Kentucky, Knox County Indiana territory and Warrick County. Birth dates for all but very few death dates. The source for this is from the Capt. Jacob Warrick chapter of the DAR. My two daughters descend from Judge Zachariah Skelton who was next born after Mary. Also I would like to know the source you have for William's wife Sarah being a Scales. I have not been in the Skelton line for a while and this is the first I have heard of a surname for Sarah. I need to get caught up some but if there is anything I may be able to help you with just holler. Gilbert

Posted on: Warrick County In. Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/Warrick?read=1138 Surname: Barclay ------------------------- A sibling of my Barclay line, Doshia Serilda Barclay, married Akillas F. Goad. She was born 27 JUN 1837 and died 15 MAY 1922. Their marriage took place on 18 NOV 1853. Akillas was born 29 MAR 1830 and died 24 SEP 1914. All these events were in Warrick Co., IN. Akillas was the son of Peter Goad and Dicy Smith. Peter was born 1 JAN 1806 and lived in White Co., TN. He died 15 Jan 1892 in Warrick Co., IN. Dicy died 8 OCT 1867 in Warrick Co., IN. Peter was the son of Stephen Goad and Rachel Smith. Stephen lived in VA, but later moved to White Co., TN (where he is buried). You may already have this information. I would guess that Dicy Smith was a sister to your Akillas Smith, and hence why she named her son Akillas. This is just some information that I picked up while gather my Barclay line. Alan Miles
