Davis, the well-known telegraph operator, died at 2:25 o’clock this morning aftera lingering illness of consumption, at the home of his parents, Mr. And Mrs. T.M. Davis, No. 32 New York street. He was 22 years old, a genteel, honest and upright young man and died possessing the highest respect of all. October last he was appointed manager of the Postal Telegraph Company to succeed Walter Doolittle. He held the position until February when he was compelled to resign on account of poor health. For several weeks he has been confined to his bed patiently awaiting the summons which called his spirit home last night. Up to the last he knew all his friends and just before he died called those that were present and the members of his family to his bedside and said his last good-by. With tearful eyes they watched the spark of life go out to shine with eternal radiance in a brighter world. There was not a better telegraph operator in the city. None excelled a! nd but few equaled him. He was with the Western Union here for several years and was also at Chicago for quite awhile. While at the latter place he was transferred to San Francisco, returning from there in May, 1888. Charles Davis, a brother of the deceased, is employed in the Lake Erie train dispatcher’s office here. The family in their deep sorrow have the sympathy of the entire community. Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock to-morrow morning at the Green Hill M.E. church, Rev. Joel Cowgill conducting the services. (paper dated 1889)
