Please contact Mike at: [email protected] OLD SOLDIER DEAD Thomas Davis Once Served As Deputy Treasurer Of This County. Thomas Moorey Davis died at the Soldier’s home on Saturday morning after a lingering illness. He was born September 14, 1843, at Wagner Grove, Warren county, and was a son of Rev. George and Nancy Davis, pioneers of Warren county. He married Martha J. Nagle October 24, 1861 and is survived by the widow and one son, Charles T. Davis, of Portsmouth, O.; one daughter, Mrs. Samuel S. Savage, of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Rolet B. Lank, of Greencastle. One son, George W. Davis, died October 19, 1899. Mr. Davis was enrolled as sergeant in Company B, Sixth Indiana infantry, April 22, 1861, at Columbus, Ind. where he was in college. He was discharged August, 2, 1861 at Indianapolis and re-enlisted for three years in Company D, Tenth Indiana infantry, December 9, 1863. He was discharged July 25, 1865, at Louisville. For many years after the war he was interested in military work and later became major in the Indiana state militia. He served as deputy county treas! urer of Tippecanoe county when H. A. Miller and W. S. Baugh were treasurers. He has a splendid war record and was a loyal citizen. The funeral was held from the home of Mrs. Savage at 2 o;clock Monday afternoon. (from paper dated July 7, 1917) DEATHS IN INDIANA Thomas Moorey Davis, 74 years old, is dead at the Soldier’s Home. After the war he was a major in the Indiana National Guard. He also served as deputy county treasurer two terms in Tippecanoe county. (Paper with same date) MONDAY, JULY 9, 1917 THOMAS MOOREY DAVIS Thomas Moorey Davis, a veteran of the civil war and at one time a major in the Indiana state militia, died at the Soldier’s home Saturday morning following a long illness. Mr. Davis was enrolled as sergeant in Company B, Sixth Indiana infantry, April 22, 1861, at Columbus, where he was in college, and discharged August 2, 1861, at Indianapolis. He re-inlisted for three years in Company D, Tenth Indiana infantry, December 9, 1863. He was discharged July 25, 1865, at Louisville. In addition to an interest in military affairs he took an interest in politics and served as deputy county treasurer under H. A. Miller and W. S. Baugh.
