JOHN D. MITCHELL At 4:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the family home, six miles west of the city, occurred the death of Mrs. John D. Mitchell, one of the best known ladies of that section of the county. The deceased was born on the farm where she died sixty-six years ago and has lived there with the exception of the first two years of her married life, spent a Green Hill. Mrs. Mitchell is the last of the well known Mitchell (probably was meant to be Gates family) family of that section and the old homestead was originally territorial land and entered by her father in 1829. Her illness dates back over several years, but she was only confined to her bed for the past four weeks. Her death was due to a complication of diseases. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Methodist church and her christian life was a most beautiful one. She leaves a husband and three children, viz: Mrs. Lizzie Laymon, residing nine miles west; W.E. Mitchell, residing four and a half miles west, and Mrs. Carrie Widmer, residing at home. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock and the services were held at 2 o'clock in the Burton M.E. church, Rev. G.W. Switzer officiating. Interment in the Burton Cemetery. Samantha Gates was the daughter of Henry Gates and Eleanor Rock.
