>>Thanks for the info. It will save me so much time while I am there. Hope to spend a lot of time at the cemeteries taking pics. Judy Judy, You're most welcome. The years you are wanting to search are not indexed, and obituaries were few and far between at that time, but I'm sure you will enjoy looking at the old papers while you search. I know that time flies by when I sit down and go through them. The library is open 7 days a week - from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Mon. - Thurs.; 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sat. and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m on Sun. There are some other good resources at the Tippecanoe Public Library that might be of help to you. --City Directories -- WPA indexes will give you 1850 marriage, 1882-1920 death and 1882-1941 birth dates --50 years of birth, death, marriages in the Lafayette Journal and Courier, 1902--1952 , compiled by Joan Rodenberger. This index is also online at the Tippecaneo County GenWeb site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~intippec/JCIntro.html --Death indexes are in the Indiana Room for 1953 to the present, by TIPCOA members. --1920 to 1940 and 1941-1950 Death Record Indexes by Mary Wilson --There are many cemetery books by Mr. David Cheesman, primarily for the southern part of the county. --Indiana census indexes are available near the census record microfilm for the years 1820-1850 and for Tippecanoe County for 1860 and 1870. You can search the 1880 index online at the LDS site: http://ww.familysearch.org --Also available on microfilm are histories and atlases for most of the other counties of Indiana. There is also an index of Indiana Civil War soldiers. This index only gives the name, rank and military unit. --There is an everyname index for the 1850 census for a few of the townships on the GenWeb site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~intippec/1850I.html To save time, you might want to check with the Lookup Page on the Tippecanoe GenWeb site to see what books and records will be searched by volunteers. http://www.rootsweb.com/~intippec/lookup.html And don't forget the Tippecanoe Co. GenWeb page has a great Search Engine too. You may find that someone has already left good things on your family. If you need help finding a cemetery or need more information about them, you should check with L.A. Clugh, the coordinator of the Tippecanoe County Pioneer Cemetery Restoration Project. She is very helpful, and if anyone knows about our cemeteries, it's L.A.! She has a website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~intcpcrg/Index.html Good luck in your search. Adina Dyer Tippecanoe Co.
