William E. Downing was the son of John H. Downing and Sarah Knight. He was from Battle Ground, Tippecanoe County. He served from 22 January 1862 to his discharge on 14 June 1865. He eventually moved to Snohomish County, Washington, where his sister's family had also settled. His sister was Orra J. Downing, and her husband was David F. Sexton. Anyway, William E.
