When I was growing up that school at 14th and Salem was St. Boniface. I attended Washington, Linwood and Crouch Elementary Schools and then onto Jefferson High School which I understand is Ivy Tech now. I would have graduated in 1956 but we moved to Florida in 1953. BTW my father was from eastern Tennessee. I hope my memory has served me right on the location of St. Boniface. There were no Short relatives around Lafayette. They were all up around Delphi, Logansport and Wabash. My relatives in Lafayette were Halsteads, my mother's family. I remember walking to Linwood down 14th and passing St. Elizabeth hospital. On a trip a few years ago I drove past it. It is immense. Sorry everyone! I remember now that Lincoln was at 14th and Salem. In the 40's I recall that is was a school for the African American children. I don't remember Lafayette as being segregated because Jefferson High School was not. I am sure someone on the list will correct me if I am incorrect again. Betty
