Rachel Ridgway was born about 1806 in Ohio. They were married 20 March 1828 in Ross Co., Ohio. John's parents are not known. Rachel was daughter of Joshua Ridgway and his second wife, Martha (maiden name not known). John was living in Aug 1841 when he was co-defendent in a civil suit, and died intestate by 1 Dec 1843 when his probate record generated his list of heirs. Rachel married second Solomon Young in 1849, Tippecanoe Co., and apparently died about 1853. John and Rachel's children: 1. Margaret, b ca 1829, Ohio; disappears from John's probate records by 1854. 2. Sarah, b ca 1831 3. William, b ca 1833 4. James, b ca 1835, Indiana 5. Nancy, b 13 Oct 1837, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana 6. Henry Wallace ("Wall"), b ca 1840, Indiana 7. John [Jr.], b ca 1841-2, Indiana This is from the 1850 Census, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. Nancy b 1837 was my great-great-grandmother. I have found a descendant of "Wall" Snyder, but have not been able to locate other collateral relatives. John the father's probate record mentions "the estate of Sarah Snider," but I do not think this is his daughter. A Sarah Snyder married Henry Myers in 1849 in Tippecanoe Co. Nancy died 1919 in McFall, Missouri while on a visit to her nephew, J. H. Myers. The indication is that J. H. was probably the son of Sarah and Henry Myers. A Ridgway book says that William Snyder married first Amanda Kenton, and second, Mary Kenton, and had children Grant, Charlie N., Jennie, Tom B., Herbert, Laura, and two who died as infants. I suspect that Margaret Snyder died or was married by 1854. John the son reached his majority and the last guardian was relieved from duty in 1862. Although the probate court appointed various guardians for the children, Nancy's 1853 marriage record (to John Henry Jackson, Tippecanoe Co.) states that she has no parents living and no guardian. This indicates that Rachel (Ridgway) Snyder died between 1850 and 1853. John Snider/Snyder the father owned land in Montgomery Co., Indiana, just south of Tippecanoe Co. Perhaps the family had lived in Montgomery Co. for a time. If anyone can shed any light on other descendants of this couple, please let me know. Thanks, Alma
