Surnames: ambrose Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi.2ADI/2201.1 Message Board Post: My g-g-great grandfather came from the north in the 1860s, fought for the south, started a family in Tippah County MS, then walked out around 1880 or so. My family has always believed that he went back to his family in the north (MO, IL,??). He used the last name Ambrose, but we were never sure if that was his real name as he may have been a northern military deserter or even a criminal.
