RACHEL WILSON Mrs. Rachel Wilson, after a residence of fifty-five years in Lafayette, entered into rest last evening at 7:20 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.C. Bownell, No. 1011 Union Street. The immediate cause of death was heart trouble. Mrs. Wilson had been afflicted with that ailment for two years, but was not confined to her home until two or three days before her death. The end was peaceful, and the last moments of a long and useful life were free from pain. Rachel Agnes Berryhill was born in Green County, Ohio, on Dec. 26, 1825. Had she lived until today, she would have been 75 years old. She came to Indiana in 1836 and to Lafayette in 1845. She was married to James T. Wilson on March 16, 1848. Mr. Wilson died on April 5, 1895. A brother, A.J. Berryhill of Odell, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Bennett of this city, are the members of the Berryhill who survive. Mrs. Wilson also leaves three daughters, Mrs. Robert L. Campbell, Mrs. John E. Chamberlain and Mrs. Jasper C. Brownell, all residents of this city. Mrs. Wilson was one of the charter members of the Ninth Street Methodist Church, not the St. Paul's M.E. Church, and still retained her membership in that church. Everybody will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Wilson. In the long years that she lived in Lafayette she surrounded herself by a large number of warm personal friends who are able to appreciate the value of her friendship and to measure the excellence of her character. She was a woman of quick sympathies, ever ready to respond to any appeal that it was in her power to answer, and was permitted in a quiet way to administer many acts of kindness. She was strongly attached to her home and was a devoted and loving wife and mother. The influence of her life went out to those about her and left an impression that will last as long as memory endures. Her precepts had a effect upon the members of her family that has exemplified in latter years to the entire satisfaction of the mother, and she died with the knowl! edge that the love and care that had been extended by her upon the members of the family had answered a good purpose. Mrs. Wilson was an earnest Christian woman and her daily life was ample proof of her sincerity. She was a good woman and will be remembered for her virtues long after that which was moral has passed away. Note: Rachel Berryhill Wilson was buried in Greenbush Cemetery, Lafayette, Indiana.
