    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Eddy-Van Valkenburg- Van Voltenburgh Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi.2ADI/2629.1 Message Board Post: There was a young man named __ Eddy who served as a telegrapher with Sherman and/or Grant when they were near Reseca, GA. In the book, "White Columns Over Georgia" a quote refers to an "Eddy Van Valkenburg of the telegraph service playing with his portable telegraph device." I once found the Eddy was a surname and the VV was Francis S Van Valkenburgh. Frank VV (18) was originally with the 14th IN Inf but was assigned as a telegrapher as he was already trained. Frank's parents came from Lockport, Erie Co, NY.Frank was b 1842 in Bird's Prairie, Cass Co, MI but joined up from Terra Haute, IN. Eddy families associated with the VV family in NYS,I think.Hope this helps
