Surnames: KOONSE, KOUNTZ, HANEY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi.2ADI/2592 Message Board Post: Hello, I am posting to the Tippecanoe message board hoping for a bit of guidance and assistance. What I have found in the last two days has been from the efforts of about six years of research. I am so excited! This is the first lead I have had about this family in YEARS! I know the rest of the family is out there, and all I have to do is look is the right places, ha-ha. The background: My ggg-grandmother, Sarah Catherine Koonse was born 1831 in Columbiana County, Ohio. She left as a legacy some truly wonderful stories, handwritten by her granddaughter in the early 1900s. I have tried and tried unsuccessfully to find out more about Sarah, but I do know she married Capt. David Clinton HANEY in Columbiana County, Ohio in 1851. He was a riverboat pilot and Captain, and Sarah and her husband moved to St. Louis. In 1879 Sarah was widowed and she soon after moved to Loup City, Sherman County, Nebraska to be near her sister, Naomi (seen spelled also as KOUNTZ) KOONSE CRISS. I have found what looks like the correct family of Sarah and Naomi in the 1850 Columbiana County, Ohio, U.S. Census and that's about it. No other "for sure" facts/documents have been found (by me) about the family in any earlier dates. Even the 1850 census seems to contradict other documents, such as Naomi's death certificate. From Sarah's obituary in 1913 I learned she! had "six brothers." The Lafayette, Indiana connection: In the Loup City, Nebraska, "Sherman County Times" newspaper for 31 May 1906, I found this - "The following account of the death of Dr. J. P. Koonse, a brother of Mrs. Simpson Criss [Naomi] and Mrs. Haney of this city, is taken from the Lafayette, Indiana, Daily Courier: "The funeral of Dr. J. P. Koonse was conducted from the family residence 1114 North Twelfth street, at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon and was largely attended. The services were beautiful and impressive, a fitting tribute to one so universally admired and beloved. Rev. Horace G. Ogden, pastor of the Louisville Methodist church, and a close friend of the deceased and family officiated. Miss Bertha Ridgely beautifully sang "Abide with me" and "Jesus, Lover of my Soul." So, I have been looking around the Tippecanoe genealogy webpages for more info about Dr. J. P. Koonse, and I found the census (1870 & 1880) and the death dates for him, his wife and their son. According to the census, they also had a daughter. Dr. Koonse was married to Virginia Koonse, and the children were Harry E. and Allie V. (or Allice) Koonse. I apologize for making this post so long, but hopefully the background will help zero in on the persons I am looking for. I would like to find out if there is a bio somewhere for Dr. J.P. Koonse, a full obituary for him (and his wife and son) and perhaps marriages of Harry E. and Allie V. Koonse. Here is what I have: Dr. J.P. KOONSE, b. Ohio, d. 17 April 1906, Lafayette Mrs. Virginia KOONSE, d. 6 Feb 1931, Lafayette Harry E. KOONSE, d. 5 Dec 1943 The J.P. might be Jeremiah, not sure, and maybe Philip. Just guessing. Those are names associated with the family. I will be most happy to share other info about the family with anyone who is interested. Thanks for your time. Laura

From the back of the pics we have identified , clearly some lines from Centre Co. moved West into Indian Nation way back when, as some sent home pics with Indian names, such as "Littletree" , and were clearly of mixed heritage...
