I think you will remember our exchange of info. I had an old e-mail address of yours and have been unable to send messages. I am descendant of James Keen's son, Daniel Keen, (a brother of Huffman Keen). You gave me a pic of Huffman and wife a couple of years back. Lets keep in touch now. I have been unable to get any research done for over a year. Lost a brother, a sister, a sister in law and a brother in law in a 7 month period. I think I have found Thomas James Keen, born about 1828 or 9 in Pike Co. OH, (who is the son of James Keen's (1784) brother, Huffman Keen) living in Elk Co. Kansas in the late 1800s according to census records. Have contacted a descendant but haven;t given details yet. Hope to be able to find out more about the family. Pretty sure James and Huffman's father is a Thomas Keen who disappeared from the Cape May County, NJ tax records in the late 1780s. Possibly a Rev War soldier. Mary Margaret

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi.2ADI/2617 Message Board Post: From the Dayton Items [Dayton,Indiana] The outlook for many improvements in Dayton this coming summer is good, and why should not our beautiful village take on a substantial growth. We have an ideal community, our grade school is among the best in the county, and from a moral standpoint there is no use for the big stick. The local justice has not had a case of violation of law for several years, the moral atmosphere is ideal and with the facilities offered by the traction road a man may live here and do business in Lafayette and his family will be free from the vices that are found in the city. There are a few desirable properties that can be bought at a bargain that offers a quiet and desirable home, where a man may enjoy the quiet of a suburban home. There are seven lodges and two churches, all in a flourishing condition. There is no saloon and has not been for several years, and the moral and religious sentiment is such that, there is no probability of there ever being one. The quiet of the town and community ! is such that the local scribe of the Courier finds it hard to get items for his weekly budget of news that would be of sufficient interest to warrant publication. 3. Find a Grave is really useful and a great place for us all to pool our resources (just think if all of us added the one or two cemetery photos we took the last time we were out, doesn't seem like much but if everyone pitches in it really adds up!) As LA pointed out, cemeteries are disappearing AND even when a cemetery is cared for, maintained and protected stones will still disappear to do vandalism or just sinking down into the dirt. So go out and take pictures or just scrounge up your old ones and post them. If you don't want to sign up for an account on Find a Grave (they don't send out junk, they're really good about not contacting you) then please feel free to mail them to me or to someone else who has an account and I would be happy to post them for you (I believe you can also post as "Anonymous" but not sure about that). __________________________________ Yahoo! 3. Thank you Lena. There are soooooo many bad tombstone readings from the past. The digital photos really help show all the information on the stone, if it's visible. If you let Thelma know about any mistakes, she will correct any bad listings. I just found one on Rebecca Lucas Brelsford. The readings errors are really common everywhere. A photos inventory also help find all those stone that were not recorded. I find these in every cemetery I work through. It helps to take all the footstones too, this will identify the missing tombstones. You folks on this list should add your old photos too. At least people researching can find where their ancestors were buried. And that usually helps them find the way to more documents and family. Find A Grave is a great place to leave -your link- to others looking for your ancestors. I've made several connections by posting my own family members on this site. Find-A-Grave only requires your email and a password to post burials or photos and they have never emailed me with junk. It's a great site. All the cemeteries are listed on Find-A-Grave for Tippecanoe County. Most of the large ones are not complete, but the smaller ones are. One lady is coming along nicely on the largest one Springvale. [17,000] She is using original records, I think she is up to 'H' now. There are a few cemeteries listed several times from folks that didn't spell the name the same way or some who knew the cemetery by other names. This is an obvious thing when you view this link on Tippecanoe County. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScnty=870 Some folks didn't do the search first, they just created a new name. We have 134 known cemeteries in our county. I think there are 170 listed on FAG. So you can see some didn't look before they leaped. :-) I have tried to collect the best of these links on my page, listing them by township. http://www.rootsweb.com/~intcpcrg/TippecanoeCountyIN_Cemetery_List.html Adina cemetery page on the Genweb has them A to Z order. http://www.rootsweb.com/~intippec/tcem.html Also for anyone interested in looking at the new database from Area Plan, it is now online. Pretty cool! http://www.tippecanoe.in.gov/egov/docs/1126713330_814361.pdf The fact is, these old cemeteries are still disappearing even with new laws to protect them.
