Having taken a look at the photo of the inscription, I think it could read like this: Peter Christman and Sarah Stout Christman Pioneers of Warren County: Peter Christman, farmer, stockman, and millwright, was born in Guilford County, North Carolina, moved to Preble County, Ohio in 1804, where he married Sarah Sout. (This is where the marriage date error occured, folks failed to see the capitol A, in about, and a period affter Stout.) About 1827, they moved to Tippecanoe County, Indiana, and then in 1829 to Warren County, Indiana where he built his pioneer homestead and tilled the soil. Later, he pursued his trade of millwright and built several grist mills in western Indiana and eastern Illinois. Their children were: David, Joseph, Isaac, Daniel, Anna Crouse, Mary Crouse, Sarah Schoonover, Eliza Mitchell, Susannah Schoonover (which was the present James C. Schoonover's grandmother) and Lavinia Chenoweth. Cheers, Eelia Descendent of Eliza Chrisman and Abner Mitchell.

Surnames: Rawles, Newell Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Hi.2ADI/2637 Message Board Post: Lafayette(Indiana) Daily Courier 3 August 1885 Over a Balustrade To a terrible death below Mrs. Matlida Rawles starts to close a window this morning, makes a misstep and falls down stairs--a crushed skull and a broken neck caused instant death. At an early hour this morning, a tragedy occurred over on the West Side, which removed one of the most estimable of Tippecanoe county's estimable ladies. The family of John Rawles, residing near the Hebron Church, just at the edge of the Grand Prarie, is, perhaps, one of the best known in the county. His wife, Mrs. Matilda Rawles, a lady 68 years of age, enjoyed the respect and esteem of the entire community, which will be shocked to learn of her terrible death. Mrs. Rawles was aroused from her sleep by the wind and rain, and thinking the latter was being blown into an open window down stairs it is presumed she left her husband's side without rousing him, and started down half asleep to close the window. At the head of the stairs she made a mis-step, and pitched forward over the balustrade. Her frightened scream and the sickening sound of her body striking the floor beneath aroused the family, and they rushed from their rooms to find the wife and mother already dead in the hall beneath. The back of skull was crushed and her neck broken--death must have been instantaneous. Dr. Spaulding, of the West side, was summonsed, the family desiring to know whether death was the result of the fall or of some one of those sudden and fatal malidies so frequently resulting in death of recent years. The doctor's opinion was that she was entirely sound and well and that her death was occasioned as stated above. Deceased was born in Brown county, Ohio, moved to Madison, Indiana, in 1830, and later to Warren county. A few years afterward she removed with her husband to this county, where they have resided ever since. The couple celebrated their golden wedding November 27, 1884, and were apparently destined to enjoy together many more happy anniversaries of a happy event. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Hebron church, the Rev Mr. Kendall officiating. Lafayette (Indiana) Weekly Journal 7 August 1885 A Horrible Death. Mrs. John Rawles, an estimable old lady aged 78, residing near the Hebron Church, met with a terrible death about 4 o'clock yesterday morning. She arose from her bed and started to descend the stairs She made a misstep and fell over the stair railing backwards. She struck upon her head, the fall making a noise that awakened her son. When he found her life was extinct, her skull bing crushed and her neck broken. The desceased was highly respected and her tragic death has cast a gloom over her friends and relatives. She was making preparations to visit her son in Missouri this week. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the family residence. Interment at Hebron cemetery.

I merely thought that since we are all genealogists and death, funerals, and burials are of interest to us, that you all might want to know what was going on. I was not addressing politics, ethics, or anything else. If this is something you don't agree with, don't care about, or don't want to know about, then please IGNORE THE E-MAIL! Genealogy is about respect and rememberance for our relatives who have passed away. It doesn't matter if they passed away 100 years ago, or 10 days ago. Lena, This is not appropriate content for a genealogy list. I feel bad for Spc. Frantz and his family but you need to take another approach to this subject. H. Sweet, Former Private, U. S. Spc. Matthew Frantz was a Lafayette soldier who was killed in Iraq on Jan. 20th. The military was a life long dream for him and he was passionate about serving his country. Now, his family is facing fire. The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church, led by Rev. Fred Waldron Phelps Sr. is planning to protest at his funeral services today, declaring that Spc. Frantz was punished with death for defending a country that protects the rights of homosexuals. There are endless disagreements about the war in Iraq and homosexuality in the United States and while I appreciate that people on both sides of the argument feel strongly about these matters I think we can ALL agree on one thing: a grieving family absolutely MUST be allowed to lay their loved ones to rest in a peaceful and private manner. While I strongly believe in our right as Americans to protest, we must be allowed to bury our sons, brothers, fiancees, cousins, friends, etc. in peace, surrounded by people who will support us in our time of need and not condemn. Corbin of Lafayette, Indiana in Tippecanoe County, and of the United States Army Air Corps, was declared killed in action January 12, 1946, after being missing in action for a long length of time. His name is honored on the "Tablets of the Missing" at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart. These references were found at the Indiana State Library but we do not have the information since the microfilms are not available to us here in the Philippines. We would appreciate any he;lp we could get in obtaining the information since it would lead to finding the family of Robert L. Corbin. References: Indianapolis Star October 20, 1943 Missing in action Page 10, Column2 Indianapolis Star May 7, 1944 Decorations Part 1, Page 39, Column 5 We welcome any information that would lead us to find the family of this Indiana hero. Hello, I am a retired American residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. A year ago we visited the memorial as visitors but came home with a mission in our hearts. As we gazed over the beautifully manicured acres and the 17,202 American graves, it was obvious only a few families had ever visited their graves. I stepped into the soft grass and focused my camera on one of the white crosses, a grave of an Ohio soldier. A strange calmness was in the air as I walked a few more steps and a cross of an Indiana soldier lay square in my path. The letters of the inscription on the marker was bolder than ever, here lay a soldier from my home state. At that moment a quiet brainstorm aroused my humble thoughts. I wondered if I could locate any of the families of these men. My stride became more defined and within a few moments I had located and photographed eight more graves. Since those gut-wrenching but touching moments we have energized our efforts in finding the families of these American men from Indiana. We have located well over 100 and have delivered the FREE photographs to them via email. Please visit our website and see the men we have honored and the families we have assisted in finding a more genuine closure of a horrible tragedy. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ Our success in finding the families was the result of journalists, amateur genealogists, historians, historical societies, librarians and lots of wonderful Hoosiers and those with Indiana ties across America. During our search we have also reached families from other states as well and have filled special requests for photos from the Manila American Cemetery. We presently have photographed only the graves of the Indiana soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen; however we have photographed all of the names that are engraved on the "Tablets of the Missing". We offer them free of charge to anyone who asks. We ask for your help in finding their families. We understand this is a genealogy board but we do not need immediate genealogy in that form, we need leads to find the families. Please become one of our special volunteers today and find the family of an Indiana serviceman from near your home. A list of the men from your Indiana county is available, free and all you must do is request it. Dave and Apple Dwiggins San Pablo City, Philippines
