    1. DUTCHESS - BISHOP Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Lyra Armelle DUTCHESS and Charles Eugene DUTCHESS which was taken at the Donaldson Studio in Logansport, Indiana. The photograph was taken on 27 March 1895 with Lyra noted as 38 years of age and baby Charles birthdate listed as 18 Nov 1894. In addition to this information someone has also written "Mother Hurda" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the family living in Walton, IN during the 1900 census with records providing the following information: Charles P. DUTCHESS, age 49, born Dec 1850, married 26 years, born NJ, parents born NY/NJ, a Druggist Lyra A. DUTCHESS, wife, age 43, born Mar 1857, married 26 years, 4 children/4 living, born IL, parents born NH/NY Edith A. DUTCHESS, dau, age 23, born Sept 1877, born IN, a Pharmacist Owen A. DUTCHESS, son, age 20, born Aug 1879, born IN, a Salesman Eugene C. DUTCHESS, son age 5, born Nov 1894, born IN In 1910 the family was living in Tipton, IN with census records providing the following information: Charles P. DUTCHESS, age 60, married 37 years, born NJ, parents born NY/NJ, a Drugstore Proprietor Lyra A. DUTCHESS, wife, age 52, married 37 years, 4 children/4 living, born IL, parents born NH/NY C. Eugene DUTCHESS, son, age 15, born IN Then in 1920 I find Lyra living in Lafayette, IN with another daughter and her family with records providing the following information: George W. BISHOP, age 48, born IN, parents born OH, a Farmer Edna L. BISHOP, wife, age 44, born IN, parents born NJ/IL Horbert M. BISHOP, son, age 23, born IN Josephine BISHOP, dau, age 20, born IN Herbert R. BISHOP, son, age 17, born IN Lenore BISHOP, dau, age 15, born IN Mary BISHOP, dau, age 12, born IN Lyra BISHOP, dau, age 7, born IN Lyra A. DUTCHESS, Mother-in-law, age 62, widow, born IL, parents born NH/NY I also find that Charles DUTCHESS b. 18 Nov 1894 died Sept 1981 in Galveston, IN. I am hoping to see this photograph returned to family and would appreciate your contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley

She last appears in the Lafayette City Directory (1885-1886) living with her husband in Octagon, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Her husband appears on the 1891 city directory, but she is not listed. There is no mention of her in the death records of Tippecanoe County. Does anyone know what happened to her after 1885-86? Her parents were Andrew Courtney and Elizabeth Jordan, who were married in Tippecanoe County in 1830. Thanks in advance, Jerry Jordan Queenstown, Maryland

He owned property in Shelby, Twp., Tippecanoe Co., IN. That land was sold on 3 March 1895 by Joseph E. Randles, his sole heir, so perhaps death was in 1894? I did not find anything in the WPA death index. By any chance, would there have been an obituary? Can anyone suggest other places to look? Thank you.

    3. I can't remember if I have posted this already or not, please forgive me if this is a repeat. There is an Association for township trustees and they have a wonderful website that lists all Indiana counties and their townships with the names of the trustees where available (there appears to be a trustee listed for every township but there aren't phone numbers or e-mail addresses available for all of them, some just list mailing addresses). These are the folks to contact for cemetery records for cemeteries that don't have their own association or caretaker. I would imagine they can probably help out with some land records and plat maps as well. http://www.indianatownshipassoc.org/townships.html __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? We believe he was the son of William Snider/Snyder and Sarah Baccus (various spellings). No doubt the surname would have been Schneider at some point, and "Henry" seems to be a given name among William's family, but I cannot connect my line to yours. Sorry. I have not researched my Ridg(e)way family in primary records, but I know that my Rachel was born about 1805-6 in Ohio. She married John in 1828 in Ross County, Ohio, but they moved to Indiana within a couple of years. John owned land in Montgomery County, Indiana, so they may first have lived there before moving on to Tippecanoe County, Indiana by 1837. That is when my great-great-grandmother, Nancy Snider/Snyder, was born there. The Ridg(e)way clan seems to have been in Maryland for a number of years before my branch moved to Ohio. If your neighbor is online and would like to compare notes, please ask him or her to contact me. Most of my evidence on the family has been gleaned from secondary sources. Alma

John Graham was born 24 Dec 1836 Scotland and died 24 Dec 1914 Tippecanoe, Indiana. I cannot place John prior to an 1880 census. His obit states that he immigrated to the states as a young boy, approx. 1941 and ended up in Lafayette, Indiana in 1854. He was a resident in Lafayette nearly 60 years it said! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since this is one of our "immigrant" ancestors, it would be super if we could determine who his family is and which boat they came across in.
