Surnames: Safty, Saftig, Englehardt Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Hi.2ADI/1713 Message Board Post: I am looking for information about my great grandfather. The family name (in Germany) was Saftig. He changed it to Safty somewhere along the line and we would like to know if this was ever done officially, and how to find out. We have been in touch with Saftig's in Germany and have much information about them. My great grandfather's name was Peter Saftig (Safty), he was born March 17, 1872. The story that we always heard was that the ig looked like a y and it was changed as they come to this country. Now we know that the people who actually came to this country (his father) continued to use Saftig and Peter is the only one who changed his name. His parents were Henry Saftig and Catherine Engelhardt (Lentz). Henry came to America (Minnesota) in 1958. What records would there be of his entrance to America and of a name change that may have occured at that time? Any information about how name changes were legally carried out in those days and any documentation would b! e greatly appreciated.

Surnames: Danelson, Swenson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Hi.2ADI/1712 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on my great grandfather's family. His name was Charles (Charley) Edward Danelson. The story is that he left home at around age 14 and never kept in touch with any family after that. According to our records, he was born on April 17, 1887. We always thought he was from Iowa (Ottomwa) but now believe it was Wisconsin he was from. I am trying to get a birth certificate from the state of Wisc. His marriage certificate (to Gertrude Swenson in Estavan, Sask, Canada) says his father's name was Charles Edward Danelson (spelled wrong as Charles Enard Donalson) and his mother's was Christina. It is hard to read and we wonder if it is accurate. He homesteaded and lived the rest if his life in Montana and has many descendants here. We would love to get more information on the Danelson family that he came from and get in touch with some relatives. His family was originally from Sweden and his wife's was were originally from Norway. Her parents name! s were Hanna Lise and Thomas (Tonnes) Swenson.

    3. Hello everyone, First, I want to apologize for sending long messages, most of which are not related to Tippecanoe Co. to the list. I did not check to see if they came from the list before replying. I thought I was replying to the person who sent the messages to me. Secondly, if anyone can help from those long messages I sent, I noticed that my yahoo email address is showing in the 'from' box. I use my yahoo account to check my personal email when I am at work and sometimes go days or even weeks without checking my actual yahoo email, because I don't use that email address for anything. If you would like to reply to me personally, please use my regular personal email address of [email protected] Thanks to everyone who has helped with this! 3. Thanks again! No Carr's there, but I did find a James Carr in the index for History of Clinton Co., but the contact email address doesn't work anymore. Someone else who also first said they thought it said Clinton Co., told me they have decided that what it really says is Fulton Co. I am looking both places. I know that her mother was in Fulton Co. in 1880. If you still have access to the image, see what you think. I did think the first letter was a T or F because of the line across the top of it. Again, thank you so much. I really appreciate all the information you are providing. Hopefully, one of your suggestions will eventually result in me finding Mary's birth record and James and Maggie's marriage. 1. Re: [INTIPPEC] James Carr in Boone County 1880
    2. Renee O.
    3. Thanks so much for helping! No, James was born in 1870 and was with his mother and step father in Pulaski County in 1880. The index shows his stepfather as R.H. Carr, but he is really Patrick Henry Carr. His mother is Julia Ann Moore. She was first married to John A. Carr, which is James' father. I am waiting on copies of both marriage records from Tippecanoe Co. to see if John and Patrick are brothers. Next will be to find out what happened to John! I have James and Maggie (Wenger) located in 1880, then again in 1910 and 1920 in Olympia, WA. They may have died between 1920 and 1930. I am trying to find their marriage record and Mary's birth record and also locate them on the 1900 census. I believe they were still in Indiana then. They were married 20 years in 1910 according to the 1910 census. Unless Maggie was pregnant before they were married, they would have been married in early 1889. Mary's ancestors were Mennonites from PA. and I believe James was a minister when they married, so although possible, probably not likely that they married after Maggie was pregnant. I'm betting on an early 1889 marriage for them. A bit more history, and I hope I'm not giving you too much information. James was in Pulaski County in 1880 and Maggie was in Fulton Co. James' parents and his mother and stepfather were married in Tippecanoe Co., which is where I believe her mother's family was. She is Julia Ann Moore and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Patrick Henry Carr and Julia Ann (Moore) Carr moved to Monon Township, White County in March 1863 (I think that should be 1883) according to the History of White and Pulaski counties. Hope that I did not overwhelm you with info. Sometimes I give too much, but when someone is helping me, I like to be sure they have as much information as possible, because being more knowledgable than me about it than I am, they can probably help better if they know what I know! Thanks so much for helping! Renee --- Lana <[email protected]> wrote: > Found this James Carr in Boone County 1880, (on LDS) > I do not know if this is the right one or not? > > 16. 3. Her obit says that the Presbyterian church performed the services. Her father was a minister from what I understand. She died in Washington, so I don't have the church from there. Anyone familiar with what Presbyterian churches there were in 1890 in Tippecanoe or Clinton County. Someone has looked at her marriage return and thinks it says she was born in Clinton County, but she is not on the birth index for either Tippecanoe or Clinton. Also, does anyone know how I would go about contacting them to ask for these records. 1. Re: [INTIPPEC] Jones and Jones Hotel, Lafayette 1860s
    2. Hi, Scott, Did you get any replies re Jones and the Jones Hotel in Lafayette? I've been watching but noticed none to the list. My Grx3 grandmother, Nancy Miller Blakely, had a sister Eliza Jane Miller who married Elihu Jones 11 Sept 1861. Elihu went off to the Civil War and was never the same, mentally, after that. She applied officially to be a caretaker for the mentally impaired (saw this in court records, figured it was referring to her husband). Elihu had family there in Tippecanoe County, and Eliza Jones was living in Lafayette long after Elihu passed away. In fact, in 1910, she gave an affidavit on behalf of her sister Nancy who was applying for a widow's pension on the basis of HER husband's Civil War record. Jones is a pretty common name, but I thought there might be a connection. Marilyn Carlson

He is in the 1870 Census along with brothers and sister's he is 17 years old. He had a brother called Jesse. On this census it names his father as Joseph Robinson. Then in the 1860 Census there is another Robinson family naming a child John R. he is 7. There is a brother William. One clue I do have is that he and Mary had a son named William. Naming patterns suggests several Jesse Robinson's. In a probate record for Jesse W. Robinson it names his son John R. Robinson (20). And, this is from the same family as in the 1870 census. I don't know which tree to bark up. Would there be anyone on the list who is researching these families? Thank you Jean Hehn
