Jo, Unfortunately there is no information on marriage records in Tippecanoe County until the WPA started the "marriage supplements" in 1882. I'm told that some marriage records will list the name of the father if the bride or groom was a minor but I have personally never seen this. After 1882 a supplement was added with the birth places and ages of the couple, the names of the couples parents and the number of the marriage (2 if the person has been married once before, etc.) Hope that helps! Surnames: Snider, Snyder, Jackson, Myers, Ridgway Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi.2ADI/1765 Message Board Post: John Snider/Snyder was born about 1800 in Pennsylvania. Rachel Ridgway was born about 1806 in Ohio. They were married 20 March 1828 in Ross Co., Ohio. John's parents are not known. Rachel was daughter of Joshua Ridgway and his second wife, Martha (maiden name not known). John was living in Aug 1841 when he was co-defendent in a civil suit, and died intestate by 1 Dec 1843 when his probate record generated his list of heirs. Rachel married second Solomon Young in 1849, Tippecanoe Co., and apparently died about 1853. John and Rachel's children: 1. Margaret, b ca 1829, Ohio; disappears from John's probate records by 1854. 2. Sarah, b ca 1831 3. William, b ca 1833 4. James, b ca 1835, Indiana 5. Nancy, b 13 Oct 1837, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana 6. Henry Wallace ("Wall"), b ca 1840, Indiana 7. John [Jr.], b ca 1841-2, Indiana This is from the 1850 Census, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. Nancy b 1837 was my great-great-grandmother. I have found a descendant of "Wall" Snyder, but have not been able to locate other collateral relatives. John the father's probate record mentions "the estate of Sarah Snider," but I do not think this is his daughter. A Sarah Snyder married Henry Myers in 1849 in Tippecanoe Co. Nancy died 1919 in McFall, Missouri while on a visit to her nephew, J. H. Myers. The indication is that J. H. was probably the son of Sarah and Henry Myers. A Ridgway book says that William Snyder married first Amanda Kenton, and second, Mary Kenton, and had children Grant, Charlie N., Jennie, Tom B., Herbert, Laura, and two who died as infants. I suspect that Margaret Snyder died or was married by 1854. John the son reached his majority and the last guardian was relieved from duty in 1862. Although the probate court appointed various guardians for the children, Nancy's 1853 marriage record (to John Henry Jackson, Tippecanoe Co.) states that she has no parents living and no guardian. This indicates that Rachel (Ridgway) Snyder died between 1850 and 1853. John Snider/Snyder the father owned land in Montgomery Co., Indiana, just south of Tippecanoe Co. Perhaps the family had lived in Montgomery Co. for a time. If anyone can shed any light on other descendants of this couple, please let me know. Thanks, Alma

In Shelby Co IN, marriage records only give the name of the bride, groom, officiate and county clerk until about 1905. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2003 8:07 AM Subject: [INTIPPEC] 1836 Marriage Record: James Philips & Jane McCurdy > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Phillips, Philips, McCurdy > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Hi.2ADI/1764 > > Message Board Post: > > Does anyone know if the marriage records give any information other than their names? W. THOMPSON, Greenfield, IN, p. 432: John LINN. Brother John LINN died at the soldier’s home in Lafayette some time in May. He was afflicted so he could not work, and as he had been in the army he went there to rest. But his stay there was short – perhaps one month – when the Lord called him to a better home, where there is no sickness, sorrow, pain, or death. Brother LINN had been a worthy member of our church in Crawfordsville, Ind., about five years. He came from the Methodists, saying “I believe this is the church of Jesus Christ.” He seemed very candid and sincere. He subscribed for the “Monitor” and “Gospel Messenger” and read them and his Bible faithfully. We will miss him in our asssemblies, but he is – “Where congregations never break up, And Sabbath’s never end.” [Submitted by] Lina W. Hi Listers, Have found my great great grandparents, George James and Mary (Dunlap) Dexter at Grandview Cemetery along with his son Carl and wife Irene. Has anyone spotted any other Dexters in local cemetery lookups? I am looking for more information on George James Dexter's brothers and sisters, namely: Rose Ann (Mrs. Frederick) Stiffler, Henry, William, Harvey, Cora, Susan and Frank Dexter. I have traced some of them to the west and back. Would love to have birth and death dates for them all, along with more general information. I know there are still several Dexters in the West Lafayette area, but I don't know any of them personally. Would love a response from any and all. TIA, Connie Dexter Spicer

They moved to Joliet, Illinois in 1900, but used to return to Lafayette to visit Johann's half-brother or step-brother in the early 1900's. I'm trying to trace my family history, and I know that some of my dad's family came from the Tippecanoe area of Indiana. He may still have living relatives (cousins) there. My dad's name: Donald Elmer Harden My dad's siblings: Kenneth/Kenny (deceased), Robert (deceased), James/Jim, David, Judith/Judy, Shirley My grandparents' names: Alva Kenneth Harden and Elizabeth Harden (Maiden name: Rohller - spelling uncertain) (both deceased) My dad said that his parents were from the Tippecanoe area and moved to Wisconsin. He can remember being to Indiana for a funeral once when he was very young and has some pictures of cousins/family that were taken back then. We don't know if any of these relatives are still living and if so where they might be. If these names sound familiar, please feel free to e-mail me with any information you might have. I am looking for both living and deceased relatives and any information that might help me trace the family line.
