RACHEL WILSON Mrs. Rachel Wilson, after a residence of fifty-five years in Lafayette, entered into rest last evening at 7:20 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.C. Bownell, No. 1011 Union Street. The immediate cause of death was heart trouble. Mrs. Wilson had been afflicted with that ailment for two years, but was not confined to her home until two or three days before her death. The end was peaceful, and the last moments of a long and useful life were free from pain. Rachel Agnes Berryhill was born in Green County, Ohio, on Dec. 26, 1825. Had she lived until today, she would have been 75 years old. She came to Indiana in 1836 and to Lafayette in 1845. She was married to James T. Wilson on March 16, 1848. Mr. Wilson died on April 5, 1895. A brother, A.J. Berryhill of Odell, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Bennett of this city, are the members of the Berryhill who survive. Mrs. Wilson also leaves three daughters, Mrs. Robert L. Campbell, Mrs. John E. Chamberlain and Mrs. Jasper C. Brownell, all residents of this city. Mrs. Wilson was one of the charter members of the Ninth Street Methodist Church, not the St. Paul's M.E. Church, and still retained her membership in that church. Everybody will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Wilson. In the long years that she lived in Lafayette she surrounded herself by a large number of warm personal friends who are able to appreciate the value of her friendship and to measure the excellence of her character. She was a woman of quick sympathies, ever ready to respond to any appeal that it was in her power to answer, and was permitted in a quiet way to administer many acts of kindness. She was strongly attached to her home and was a devoted and loving wife and mother. The influence of her life went out to those about her and left an impression that will last as long as memory endures. Her precepts had a effect upon the members of her family that has exemplified in latter years to the entire satisfaction of the mother, and she died with the knowl! edge that the love and care that had been extended by her upon the members of the family had answered a good purpose. Mrs. Wilson was an earnest Christian woman and her daily life was ample proof of her sincerity. She was a good woman and will be remembered for her virtues long after that which was moral has passed away. Note: Rachel Berryhill Wilson was buried in Greenbush Cemetery, Lafayette, Indiana.

He was born in Adams County, Ohio, October 26, 1808, and was married to Miss Elizabeth Hawk, of Brown County, Ohio, in 1829. Four children were born to them, William, Mary, James and Philip. Mrs. Hiett died in 1834, and the bereaved husband removed to this county during the following year, locating in Jackson Township, where he resided ever afterward -- a term of sixty years. In 1837 he was married to Miss Sarah A. Odell, also a native of Brown County, five children being born to them, viz.: John, Francis, Susanna, Samuel and Nathaniel. In 1846 Mr. Hiett was again robbed of his wife, death claiming her. Two years later he married Miss Mary F. Davidson, who survives him. Eight children blessed this union, namely: George W., Alfred C., Emery R., Henry W., Isabella, Sarah, Charles and Margaret. The children are scattered all over the country and are influential people wherever they may be. One daughter married Rev. W.F. Switzer, of Michigan City, and was with her father when he died. Mr. Hiett was an ardent Republican, and was long associated with the Methodist Episcopal church. He was recognized as an honorable, upright, conscientious man, and his example in life was one that should stand forever before the young men of his community. The funeral will be held at the Sugar Grove M.E. church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock.

Each Zone consists of a series of 8 or more bordering county maps making up all 92 Indiana counties. Each Zone Atlas contains high resolution scanned images of vintage 19th century county maps that are presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). All (11) individual Indiana Zones also available separately. Each county map includes the following 19th century features: * roads, railroads and canals * cities, towns and villages * post offices and government sites * one-room schoolhouses, churches and cemeteries * rivers, streams and ferries * racetracks, fairgrounds and picnic groves * industrial sites, furnaces and mills * early homesteads and farms -and much more The Historic Atlas of Indiana series may be an invaluable aid to Genealogists, Historians and researchers in search of 19th century Indiana places and place names. Many 19th century sites no longer appear on contemporary maps and or have been obscured with time. The Historic Atlas Series CD's provide researchers with the means to quickly search 19th century maps when searching for extinct Indiana places. The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas; and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary. The map data has been created and configured using Adobe Acrobat Reader (6.0) for MS Windows (98, 98SE, XP, NT and 2000). The maps may be viewed in earlier and the latest versions of the software as well; however, optimum use of the data can be expected using the Adobe Reader 6.0 that is included on this CD. Details on early maps are often difficult to read and these are no exception; however, by virtue of the Adobe PDF formatting, these documents may be inspected at high levels of magnification without additional digital distortion; something that simply cannot be accomplished with paper reproductions and photocopies. I've been researching the descendants of John STEVENS, who came from Ireland to Lafayette, IN, in 1851. His son William's daughter Harriette married Delmar Raymond BELLINGER Oct. 25, 1922 in Tippecanoe County. While this couple was still in Lafayette area for the 1930 census, they have lived in many different parts of the US. Finally came upon Delmar's obit in an AZ paper, and want to share it, in case anyone else is working on this line--and to archive for future reference, since I can't find any mention of his passing in Lafayette area papers. Published in the Sun City-Youngstown News-Sun (near Phoenix, AZ), Wednesday, October 14, 1970: Delmar Bellinger, 71, who had owned a gift shop before he moved here in 1968 from San Jose, Calif., died last Wednesday in his home at 11050 Cheryl Dr. [this would be in Sun City] Mr. Bellinger was born in West Lafayette, Ind., and was graduated from Tri State College at Angola, Indiana. He also attended Wisconsin and Purdue universities. He was a member of a Masonic lodge and Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Harriette. Services and burial were private, said Lundberg's Sunland Chapel. Still looking for Harriette's obit... Jacqi

I have the following obituary in my file. I thought you may like to have it. Thelma Brooks Morgan. CARTER, JAMES MRS - (1839-1900) b. Apr 25, 1839 d. Dec 28, 1900 Lafayette, Indiana Daily Call,Saturday, December 29, 1900, page 5 Salem Cemetery, near Attica, Indiana The Shawnee Mound community was greatly pained last evening by the announcement of the death of Mrs. James Carter. She passed away at 4:15 o'clock at the family residence, one mile west of the Mound. She had lived in that locality nearly all her life, and there was no woman in Jackson Township who stood higher in the estimation of the public or who was closer in touch with the hearts of the people than Mrs. Carter. She had been troubled for years by an affection of the throat, but the immediate cause of death was paralysis. She was stricken on Monday but did not lose consciousness until the shadow of death had completely enveloped her. She was deprived of the power of speech at the time she was prostrated, and remained silent from that time on, but the members of the family and her friends realized that she was conscious of their presence and that she appreciated the love that was manifested in their gentle ministrations to her wants. Mrs. Carter was the daughter of Peter Wheeland and was born in Ross County, Ohio, on April 25, 1839. She was married there on January 6, 1858, to James Carter, and immediately left her Ohio home and accompanied him to the Shawnee prairie. The husband and five children survive, viz.: Mrs. Lulu Nuss of Terre Haute; Mrs. Lizzie Patton, Mrs. Lettie Foster, Edward and Nelson Carter. The deceased had been a member of the Baptist church nearly all her life and was actively connected with the with the congregation at Newtown. She was a woman of deep religious convictions and her influence for good had been plainly felt in the community in which she lived. The funeral will be conducted from the residence on tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Henson, pastor of the Baptist church at Newtown, will officiate, and the interment will be made in the Salem Cemetery. -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of vivwiley35@yahoo.com Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2005 8:24 PM To: INTIPPEC-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [INTIPPEC] Re: Mrs. James (Keziah) Carter - Obituary This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
