Hello to the list: I have been reading the posts about the Scottish in Switzerland Co. My tie to this county is my Socwell or Sockwell ancestor who arrived there in 1837. I was wondering if those of you who have searched Scotland, either in person or in records, have ever seen the name Socwell or a variation. My many years of searching for their "roots" points back to England where I'm told they were likely from the northern areas near the boarder with [or over the boarder] into Scotland. The name may even have been spelled Salkeld before they arrived in America. Great Salkeld isn't far from the boarder between England and Scotland. Whether or not there is a connection between my Socwells, the name Salkeld and the place of that name, I haven't determined. If the names appears in any of your material, I would really appreciate knowing of it. Carol
