For that early period you might want to search the original land patents online at http:www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Default.asp? all you do to start is pick a state and enter a last name. Try it for both Indiana and Ohio. Very early the land in Indiana was sold thru the office in Cincinnati.
