    1. [INSWITZE] UTZ - COFFMAN Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of a young girl identified as Erbie UTZ which was taken at the J. Ed Tutt Studio in Valley Falls, Kansas. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Erbie likely about 8 years old at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate this family and gather the following information: Irbie Bell UTZ b. 23 Jun 1878 in Valley Falls, KS to parents Robert Noah UTZ (b. 19 Oct 1831 in Boone Co, KY) and Susan Marie COFFMAN (b. 22 Feb 1834 in Covington, KY) who were married on 9 Dec 1855 in Switzerland Co. IN. Irbie Bell was the last of their 11 children, her siblings included, Larrina Jenetta; Mary Jane; Harvey Pence; Katie L.; Olive A.; Edwin Curtis; Ira R.; Carrie May; Arthur Elbert; and Owen W. UTZ, all born between 1856 and 1878 in either Davies Co. MO or Valley Falls, KS. Census records for the family are as follows: 1880 census of Delaware, KS: Robert N. UTZ, age 48, a Farmer, born KY, parents born VA/WV Susan M. UTZ, wife, age 45, Keeping House, born KY, parents born VA/KY Mary UTZ, dau, age 21, at Home, born MO Harvey UTZ, son, age 20, at Home, born KS Olive UTZ, dau, age 16, at Home, born KS Edwin UTZ, son, age 14, at Home, born KS Carrie UTZ, dau, age 8, born KS Arthur UTZ, son, age 5, born KS Erba UTZ, dau, age 2, born KS 1900 census of W. Delaware Township, KS: Robert N. UTZ, age 68, born Apr 1831, married 44 years, born KY, parents born VA, a Farmer Susan M. UTZ, wife, age 66, born Feb 1834, married 44 years, 11 children/7 living, born KY, parents born VA/KY Arthur E. UTZ, son, age 26, born Feb 1874, born KS, a Farmer Irbia B. UTZ, dau, age 21, born Jun 1878, born KS 1920 census of Valley Falls, Delaware Township, KS: Susan M. UTZ, age 85, a widow, born KY, parents born VA/KY Irbia B. UTZ, dau, age 44, born KS, parents born KS/KY I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [INSWITZE] Allensville Cemetery & Find a Grave
    2. Charles Price
    3. Thanks to David Holcomb for suggesting Find a Grave. When I checked out the site I found that I had already joined six and a half years earlier. I had forgotten after loosing a lot in a hard drive crash. "Back everything up on CD and OFTEN". Lesson learned. I added more than 100 listings with headstone photos for Allensville Cemetery. I calculate that I was able to photograph only half of the headstones there. I will plan another trip sometime this year to do the other half. If anyone spots any errors, please tell me so I can correct them. My maternal grandmother was of the Fox family. Their ancestors came to America in the 1710 Palatine Immigration to New York from Niederbieber Germany via England. Charles Price

    1. [INSWITZE] Jefferson County History Blog
    2. I have created a blog for posting articles about Jefferson County History. I know that there are many researches with connections in Switzerland County who are also interested in Jefferson. http://jeffersoncountyindiana.blogspot.com/ I am doing this to start getting information from my rapidly evolving book on the history of Jefferson County into the public. I hope to publish by 2009. It's probably more than anybody needs to know about the county up to roughly World War I. I am writing it because of the approaching bicentennial of Madison and because there's never been a history of Jefferson County written that was very good and a lot of information circulating about the county has become disconnected from the source material that, even when true, it's hard to tell why we know it's true. Also, so many histories have concentrated on the great man and great houses of Madison's Golden Age that the rest of history has been given short shrift. I will be digesting information, hopefully a regular basis. Suggestions, ideas, corrections are welcome. While recently doing some research at the Allen County Library, in Ft. Wayne (second largest genealogy library in the world) on behalf of a client, I copied many deeds, along with a will, and a few court minute items. These are all copies of original documents; most from Switzerland County. With my client's permission, I have uploaded all of these documents to my gallery on Footnote <http://www.footnote.com/?xid=17&kbid=1167> . The most common surname found in these documents is FENTON (Fenton's were the focus of my research). However, many other surnames are connected to these various documents. The surnames found in these included: BRADFORD, CARTER, CARVER, CHINOWETH, DRAKE, FENTON, GILBERT, HINMAN, KELSO, MCGINNIS, PEAK, PERKINS, PHILLIPS, REA, ROBINSON, WAUGH, WILES. In other words, most of the deeds are between a FENTON, and one of these other surnames. There are 53 pages of these documents. To locate the folks of interest to you, you will need to browse through all of the 53 pages. Sorry. I simply don't have the time to point to each and every document. 3. The Vevay Cemetery is taken care of by the town. I don't know about access to any of the records through the town. However, You may call the Switz. Cty. Public Library (Thursday is probably best), or the Switz. Cty. Historical Society (daily & weekends 12 to 4) and ask them to check for you in the Wanda Morford Cemetery Inscriptions. This is a list from over 20 years ago. Library 812-427-3363 Society 812-427-3560 The health department may be able to answer recent burial questions from death records.812-427-3270 Obituaries are only in process and not complete in the museum records. I am not familiar with where they are in the library now. Ellyn There is a listing in that book and it isn't very long so if you have the names you want, they can probably answer over the phone. ----- Original Message ----- From: <KPhill2906@aol.com> To: <inswitze-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 02, 2007 3:48 PM Subject: [INSWITZE] Vevay Cemetery > Does anyone know who takes care of the Vevay Cemetery and if they have a > listing of the burials. > > I did find some information on the Switzerland County GenWeb site and > FindaGrave; however, not the ones I'm looking for. > > Also, does anyone know if the library has obituaries on microfilm? > > Thanks, > Karen > > > > **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's > hottest > products. > (http://money.aol.com/special/hot-products-2007?NCID=aoltop00030000000001) > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > INSWITZE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >
