    1. Re: [INSWITZE] Reagan/Ragan 1870 Census
    2. Thanks to Charlie too! Great list! Out of curiosity, is there not an 1860 Census for Indiana or for this county for some reason. I had only asked for the 1870, but seesaul sent the 1850 also and just wondered if 1860 burned or something? Valerie

    1. [INSWITZE] SHAFFER REAGAN WORDEN
    2. I just joined this list and what a great one! I have to thank Dave for sending me the actual images from 1870 census. What a treasure! And thanks to "seesaul" for going further and also finding these folks in the 1850 census and even looking all over Indiana for my Wordens in 1870 until they were found too! You guys are awesome! Thanks for the help. I truly thought this would take a lot longer to confirm. It is appreciated! Valerie in KS

    1. [INSWITZE] 1870 Census - SHAVER/SHAFER, REAGAN, WORDEN/WARDEN
    2. Does anyone have access to the 1870 Census for Switzerland Co. I am looking a family...DAVID and ELIZABETH SHAFER/SHAVER or SHAFFER should be the parents with teenage children probably and hopefully with a 1 or 2 year old named Bill or William in the household that is their grandchild. If anyone finds them I would love to have all the names in that household with ages and birthplaces. I am also looking for right around them, their daughter Rebecca Shaffer who by 1870 was married to BILL REAGAN...they should be in a household by themselves. Then also, not too far there should be someone named FRANCIS MARION WARDEN or WORDEN born about 1850 so he'd be about 20. He may still live with his parents at this point because at some point after 1870, he marries one of David and Elizabeth Shafer's daughters, Mary Caroline Shafer, who I hope you find in the David Shafer household. The little Bill age 2 in the Shafer household was brought to Missouri at age 14 by his aunt Rebecca and Uncle Bill Reagan. Bill Shafer's mother, Mary Shafer, who later married Francis Warden and came to Missouri and had more children, so all these families are intertwined. If anyone could help me with this I would be very grateful. I checked the usgenweb site and 1870 census is not listed on the Switzerland County webpage as having been transcribed yet. Thanks MUCH! 2. I am aware that, at least in the mid-1800s, there was a place in Ohio County, IN (the county north of Switzerland County) called Cole's Corner. My ancestors, William Van Buren Myers and Nancy Ann Dennis Myers were married there. The presiding minister was Henry Surber, who was WVB Myers' uncle/brother of WVB Myers' mother Barbara Surber Myers. Don't know much else about it, but the Cole name may connect, or might get others started on input for you that could be relevant.

    1. Re: [INSWITZE] Research Help
    2. 1880-Census Switzerland County, Indiana listed on page 15, Supervisors District 2, Craig Township, Wright, Eliza A., age 59, Widow, she and her mother and father born Indiana also listed Charles Wright, age 17, son, born Indiana, father born Virginia, mother born North Carolina. Listed in the same household is a Fletcher Wright age 25, divorced, born Indiana, father born Virginia, unable to read mothers birthplace. Interesting that Charles is listed as Eliza's son but it states his mother was born in North Carolina, and Eliza is listed as being born in Indiana. There is no relationship mentioned for Fletcher but he is a Wright. I do quite a bit of research in Switzerland County, and also am researching Wrights, but mine are from Virginia, Kentucky and around Rushville, Indiana. Sheila Kell

    3. Thanks to all who responded to my first note. Now I would like to see if other information exists. Below is an extract from the 1880 Switzerland Co census for a Eliza Wright. I would like to see if this family appears in earlier census records (1850, 1860, 1870) and/or if there is birth info for Charles. He is my main area of interest. I am looking for a Charles Riley Wright born in April 1860 or 1863 in IN. I have been hunting for about 15 years with no luck and think he might have been orphaned in his teens. 3. I am trying to find an ancestor who may have been given up for adopting in the late 1800s. Charles R. Wright was born April 1860 or 1863 in IN. Mother's name was Eliza, father might have been Eli. There was a reference, I beleive, of an Eliza Wright in the 1880 Switzerland Co, IN census but I have no access to it. Would anyone have an index and/or could tell me what the entry states? Thanks, Paul Wright -- Open WebMail Project (http://openwebmail.org)

    3. This Sept. I will be going to SE Indiana for a week stay. I will be visiting cemeteries and libraries in Switzerland,Ohio, and some area of Dearborn counties. I usually take requests for tombstone pictures from these areas. I must have some information on any names requested: County-Cemetery Name- Section of cemetery if a large cemetery( I have an index of Ohio county )- Location of cemetery The large cemeteries are sometimes too large to walk and search so I must have at least which section to look in. Last year I had to cut my trip short because of hurricane threat. If anyone requested last year and did not receive answer,Please repeat and I will do my best this year Larry NOBLE Naples, Collier County Florida RAOGK Volunteer lnoble30@comcast.net
