Try this URL for starters: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-American_Girls_Professional_Baseball_League The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was a women's professional baseball league which existed from 1943 to 1954. With the advent of World War II reaching America, and in order to maintain baseball in the public eye while the majority of able men were away, several major league baseball executives started a new professional league with women players. Principal differences with the men's game were in the size of the diamond, the pitching styles and the size of the ball. The players were also required to wear short skirts during play and lipstick at all times, were preferably to have long hair, and not to wear slacks or trousers at any time. The 1992 film A League of Their Own, although fictionalised, covers the founding and play of this league. ----Original Message Follows---- From: Norrita Sanders <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: [INSTJOSE] Re: INSTJOSE-D Digest V06 #76 Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2006 05:55:34 -0700 (PDT) Seems to me that the "Komenski" Name was involved in Womens Baseball in the 40's south Bend was a prominent team if I remember correctly.
