They lived in Mishawaka with my gg grandfather in the late 1860's and 1870's. Both men worked for the Milburn Wagon Works. My g g grandfather Joseph Lindecker followed the Milburns to Toledo, Ohio. But the trail for Stephan Lindecker and his family went cold on me after that. This is what I have on Stephan: 1. Stephan (Lindegger) Lindecker (Martin3, Martin2, Lindegger1) was born 20 Dec 1836 in Weildorf, Baden, Germany. He married Mary Anne "Anna" Smith 23 Jun 1868 in St. Joseph, Indiana. She was born Abt. 1837 in Switzerland. Copy of the Church Book Record in my possession. I have a record of a marriage in Mishawaka, Indiana, in 1868 for a Stephen Lindecker who married a Mary Ann Smith. This Stephen Lindecker lived only a few blocks from Joseph C. and Josephine Lindecker. Germans to America, Ira Glazier & P. William Filby, Scholarly Resources, Inc., Wilmington Delaware, 1984. Volume 19, p. 213 Lindecker, Stephan, Age 28, Farmer Ship: Bavaria, From Hamburg to New York, Arr. May 31, 1867 and Liecker, Otto, Age 29, Miller May be a relative? 1870 Census, Roll: M593_360 Page: 407 Image: 356 Year: 1870 Indexed at Ancestry.com as Lunderker, actual spelling used was Lyndecker. Dwelling 286, Family 278 July 6, 1870 Joseph Lyndecker, age 42, Mishawaka, St Joseph, IN abt 1828 Baden White Male, value of real estate was $1500. personal estate valued at $100, working in wagon shop, he is listed as a citizen with parents of foreign birth. No one else in the family is a citizen. Josephine, 43, Mishawaka, St Joseph, IN abt 1827 Baden White Female Charles, 15, Mishawaka, St Joseph, IN abt 1855 Baden White Male, working in wagon shop. Joseph, 9, Mishawaka, St Joseph, IN abt 1861 Indiana White Male Anna, 7, Mishawaka, St Joseph, IN abt 1863 Indiana White Female 1870 Census, Mishawaka, Indiana. Indexed at Ancestry.com as Lynderher, the name in the census being clearly spelled Lyndecker. Roll: M593_360 Page: 407 Image: 356 Stephen Lyndecker, age 34, works in wagon shop, real estate valued at $500, no personal estate value given, Mishawaka, St Joseph, IN abt 1836 Baden White Male Not listed as a citizen. Anna Lyndecker, 35, Mishawaka, St Joseph, IN abt 1835 Switzerland White Female Anna, 1, Mishawaka, St Joseph, IN abt 1869 Indiana White Female In searching for any Stephen Lindecker I have found a record in the 1910 Census in the 43 District, 5th Wd Buffalo, Erie County, New York on page 14A as follows: Name: Stephan Lindecker Birth: abt 1834 This man is listed as being born in Germany and both parents being born in Germany. He is listed as being a boarder at the St. Francis Assylum on April 25, 1910. I do not know for certain that this is the same man. Notes for Mary Anne "Anna" Smith: 1870 Mishawaka Census gives her age as 35, and her birth place as Switzerland. Have not found her family. Child of Stephan Lindegger and Mary Smith is: 2 i.
