From Rick B Sunday, February 12, 2006 "The South Bend Weekly Tribune", Saturday, October 2, 1897, page 5 Fifty friends, mostly relatives, gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Haight, four miles north of the city, on Saturday evening, to help Mr. Haight celebrate his 70th birthday anniversary. In compliance with a wish he made some time ago, each gentleman had a package of smoking tobacco, over 17 pounds in all. The ladies furnished the supper. Miss Clara Harris, daughter of Mrs. Haight, whose birthday will be on Sept. 30, also received several handsome presents. The evening was happily spent.
