Butts. My local library is very picky about how long you use their scanner, so for now, I will transcribe the obituaries. Next week, I will scan them and send them to you. >From the South Bend Tribune, Wednesday, May 29, 1901: Arthur E. Butts, son of D. E. Butts, of Battle Creek, Mich., died last night at 8:40 o'clock at Epworth hospital. He had been ill with pleurisy and was 33 years old. The remains were shipped to Battle Creek this noon. >From the South Bend Daily Times, Wednesday, May 29, 1901: Arthur C. Butts, of Battle Creek, Mich., a Grand Trunk employe who was about to move to this city to reside, died at 8:40 pm Tuesday, at Epworth hospital of pleuropneumonia, aged 33 years. The deceased leaves a wife and two children. He had been ill but a few days. Remains were taken to Battle Creek at 1:20 pm today for interment. The following day, May 29th, his wife, Amy/Amie Hyler Butts purchased clothing for Arthur to be buried in from Moses, S & J Livingston Clothiers at 110-112 N Michigan St in South Bend, IN. That same day a casket and services were paid for to B F Price, Funeral Director, at 126 No Michigan St. Arthur was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI on May 31st, 1901. According to the files at the cemetery, Arthur and Amy, and their two small sons were residents (probably renters)of South Bend, IN at the time of Arthur's death. To date I've been unable to find an obituary for Arthur and feel possibly one might exist in South Bend. A hand written note from a book of Amy's recorded this information: "Arthur E Butts was born Nov. 8, 1868 died May 28, 1901 at 8:40 PM". I'm unsure if Arthur died in a medical facility or at home. Any help from someone in that area would be greatly appreciated. I'm a senior citizen, living on a small fixed income in AZ and know there is no way I'll ever be able to travel to IN to hopefully find the information I'm seeking. Mrs. Charles Reed, 27 years old, 2717 North Side boulevard, died Sunday at 4:05 p. m., following a two weeks' illness of typhoid fever. She was born at Angola, Ind., Oct. 27, 1890, and came to South Bend 12 years ago. She was married to Charles Reed Jan. 30, 1909. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters, of Mishawaka. Surviving her are her husband and three children, Howard, Marguerite and James. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. from the residence, Rev. B. E. Parker, of the First M. Larson, 85, of 1008 Quimby St., died at 1 am in her residence after a brief illness. She was born on Oct 14, 1886 in Warsaw. On Jan 27, 1912, in Warsaw, as Susan Mitterling, she was married to Charles J. Larson, who died on Jan 25, 1968. Surviving are a niece, Mrs. Charles Teske of South Bend; and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Planck of Bellaire Bluff, Fla., and Mrs. James DeHaven of Marcell, Minn. Private services will be held at 10 am Saturday in the Forest G. Hay and Son Funeral Home, Rev. Keith Bennett, pastor of the First Brethren Church, of which Mrs. Larson was a member, officiating.
