    3. Newspaper Tidbits from Rick B Tuesday, February 28, 2006 "The South Bend Weekly Tribune", Saturday, October 2, 1897, page 5 The jury in the case of Ellen Hatch et al. vs. Mary Hill, contesting the validity of the will of the late Daniel Hill, of Elkhart county, returned a verdict Friday in favor of the plaintiff, after being out 24 hours. Judge John Vanfleet, or counsel for the defense, immediately gave notice of the filing of a motion for a new trial. The case is likely to go to the supreme court. As the jury could not get together before noon the norning session of the St. Joseph circuit court was brief Monday. It took just 20 minutes to bring the docket up to the jury, and court then adjourned until 1:15 p. m. In Menges vs. Menges, claim, Mr. Funk gave notice of a motion for a new trial on the ground of excessive damages, not sustained by the evidence.

    1. Brother of Mrs Phil Glassey of North Liberty IN killed World War II
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Carpenter, Glassey, McDaniels, Hornaday Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ei.2ADI/2360 Message Board Post: Mrs. Phil Glassey grew up in the New Castle area in Henry County and her brother became a fighter pilot in World War II. He was shot down and lost in the South Pacific. Capt. Hornaday’s survivors include, beside his parents, two brothers, Harold E. of Indianapolis, and Meredith of New Castle; three sisters, Mrs. Oris McDaniels of Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Orville O. Carpenter of South Whitley, Indiana; and Mrs. Phil Glassey of North Liberty, Indiana. Captain Warren G. Hornady was in the 6th Night Fighter Squadron and was killed May 7, 1943. His status remains missing or buried at sea and his name is honored on the “Tablets of the Missing” at Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We have found the following reference at the Indiana State Library website; World War II database. We do not have the information because we do not have access to the microfilms here in the Philippines but we are hoping for some help from our posting. Our goal is to find the families of Indiana servicemen and present them with free photographs of their loved one’s grave sites or their names as they appear on the “Tablets”. This information will increase our chances of finding the families. Please help us! References: Indianapolis Star May 18, 1943 Casualty Page 19, Column 2 Indianapolis Star June 17, 1943 Casualty Page 5, Column 3 Hello, I am a retired American veteran residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. A year ago we visited the memorial as visitors but came home with a mission in our hearts. As we gazed over the beautifully manicured acres and the 17,202 American graves, it was obvious only a few families had ever visited their graves. I stepped into the soft grass and focused my camera on one of the white crosses, a grave of an Ohio soldier. A strange calmness was in the air as I walked a few more steps and a cross of an Indiana soldier lay square in my path. The letters of the inscription on the marker was bolder than ever, here lay a soldier from my home state. At that moment a quiet brainstorm aroused my humble thoughts. I wondered if I could locate any of the families of these men. My stride became more defined and within a few moments I had located and photographed eight more graves. Since those gut-wrenching but touching moments we have energized our efforts in finding the families of these American men from Indiana. We have located well over 100 and have delivered the FREE photographs to them via email. Please visit our website and see the men we have honored and the families we have assisted in finding a more genuine closure of a horrible tragedy. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ Our success in finding the families was the result of journalists, amateur genealogists, historians, historical societies, librarians and lots of wonderful Hoosiers and those with Indiana ties across America. During our search we have also reached families from other states as well and have filled special requests for photos from the Manila American Cemetery. We presently have photographed only the graves of the Indiana soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen; however we have photographed all of the names that are engraved on the "Tablets of the Missing". We offer them free of charge to anyone who asks. We ask for your help in finding their families. We understand this is a genealogy board but we do not need immediate genealogy in that form, we need leads to find the families. Please become one of our special volunteers today and find the family of an Indiana serviceman from near your home. A list of the men from your Indiana county is available, free and all you must do is request it. Warren G. Hornaday Captain United States Army Air Force 6th Night Fighter Squadron Henry County – Indiana Service Number 0-424954 Died May 7, 1943 Missing in action or buried at sea His name is honored on the “Tablets of the Missing” at Manila American Cemetery - Philippines Dave and Apple Dwiggins San Pablo City, Philippines

    1. Indiana Historical Society to Host Genealogy Workshop-Overcoming Your Brick Walls
    2. Richard Berkheiser
    3. Hi everyone! Here's an upcoming event to mark on your calendar. :-) Rick B List Administrator ----- Original Message ----- From: Margaret Bierlein To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, February 24, 2006 10:07 AM Subject: Indiana Historical Society to Host Genealogy Workshop-Overcoming Your Brick Walls Overcoming Your Brick Walls The Indiana Historical Society will host a genealogy lecture, Overcoming Your Brick Walls, to explore commonly used genealogical resources from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 18 at the Indiana History Center, 450 W. Ohio Street, Indianapolis. In the lecture, Carol Montrose will describe how to recognize and glean clues to help overcome "brick walls" during genealogical research. As Montrose will explain, researchers often need to reevaluate just one piece of information that can often provide the necessary clue to continue the research and break down the "brick wall." Montrose has presented programs at the Ohio Genealogical Society and National Genealogical Society annual conferences. She teaches continuing education classes in the Columbus, Ohio area, including classes at The Ohio State University. Since 1999 Montrose has published a number of genealogy resource materials and books, including an article that was included in Hank Z Jones book, Psychic Roots. The cost to attend the workshop is $10; $8 IHS members. Seating is limited and the registration deadline is March 8. To register or for more information call (317) 232-1882. A registration brochure can be downloaded at http://www.indianahistory.org/pub_prog/genealogy/gen_programs.html#brick _walls. Since 1830, the Indiana Historical Society has been Indiana's storyteller, connecting people to the past by collecting, preserving, interpreting and disseminating Indiana history. The independent, nonprofit organization also publishes books and periodicals; sponsors teacher workshops; provides youth, adult and family programming; assists local historical groups throughout the state; and maintains one of the world's largest collection of material on the history of Indiana and the Old Northwest.
