Mrs. Margaret McHugh died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Sarah E. McGinnis, 316 South Lafayette street, last night after an illness of two years with cancer of the stomach. Mrs. McHugh leaves one daughter, Mrs. Joseph Boonestra, of Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Barrett and Mrs. Sarah E. McGinnis, of this city. Mrs. McHugh was born in Lafayette, Ind., where she made her home until coming to this city two years ago. She was 43 years old. The remains will be taken to Lafayette, Ind., over the Three I road Thursday morning and the funeral will be held from St. Mary's church in that city Thursday afternoon. The remains will be laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery. Friends wishing to view the remains may do so by calling at the residence after 5 o'clock this evening.

She survives with five daughters, Marjorie Holland and Shirley Bishop, both of South Bend Lucille Bird of Angola, Ind. It is presumed that Bartz was walking down the track to the farm of his son. His pocketbook and a protion of his clothing was carried on the cow-catcher of the engine to Garret, Ind. Submitted by Georgia Gill-Elkins South Bend Tribune 1/4/1986 p A4; 1/5/1986 p. D 3 Smith, Voorde, Schrager, Parisey, Berbitsky Irving Smith, a former city attorney, dies Irving J. Smith, 72, of 2116 Bader Ave. a former South Bend city attorney, died Friday afternoon in his home. Mr. Smith began practicing law in 1938 in South Bend after graduating from Indiana University Law School. He served as county attorney and in 1955 he was appointed city attorney by Mayor Edward F. Voorde. In 1945, Mr. Smith received a Bronze star medal for his role as director of Camp Feldafing near Munich, Germany, where he was responsible for 4,500 Jewish refugees who were picked up from various concentrations camps. He was born June 14, 1913, in South Bend and he lived in the area all of his life. On Aug. 15, 1946, in South Bend, he married the former Florence Schrager, who died Aug. 19, 1981. On Dec. 29, 1985, in South Bend, He married the former Gyla Terlop Parisey, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Frederick of Boston; two step daughters, Kimberly Parisey and Kelley Parisey, both of South Bend; three stepsons, Bradley, Brian and Lance Parisey, all of South Bend; two grandchildren; a sister Sylvia Berbitsky of South Bend; and a brother, Melvin of Indianapolis. A son David died Jan. 14, 1981. Services will be a 1 p.m. Sunday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Dr. Burial will be in the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Mr. Smith was a past secretary of the St. Joseph County Democratic Association. He was a member of the St. Joseph Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Mr. Smith also was a member of the Indiana Society of Chicago. In 1968, he was elected president of the Jewish Community Council. In 1969 and 1970, he was elected president of Sinai Synagogue. He was a member of B'nai B'rith and past president of the Jewish War Veterans. Mrs. Smith also served on the board of directors for the Council of Retarded Children of St. Joseph County. Memorial contributions may be made to Sinai Synagogue.
Submitted by Georgia Gill-Elkins South Bend Tribune 1/19/1965 p. 21 Smith, Parzen, Berebitshy, Albon Mrs. Ida Smith Services for Mrs. Ida Smith, 83, formerly of 1608 Leer St. who died at 11 p.m. Monday in the Berinstein Jewish Home for the Aged, Indianapolis, were to be held at 4 p.m. today in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, Rabbi Maurice Parzen of Sinai Synagogue officiating. Burial were to be in Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery of Mishawaka. Mrs. Smith was born in Lithuania on Jan. 10, 1882, and been ill for several months. Her husband, David O. Smith, died on July 2, 1948. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Berebitshy, of South Bend; two sons, Irving J. Smith South Bend attorney, and Melvin Smith of Indianapolis; five grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Albon, of Dallas, Texas.
